Say Hi to Novella!
Novella may be a compact 40 pounds, but she has a big Aussie personality — playful, affectionate, a little opinionated, and happiest when she’s close to her people.
Novella is a 6-year-old Australian Shepherd who is spayed, up to date on her vaccines and prevention, and ready to find her forever home.
This spunky little girl loves being with her people. She’s a classic Aussie shadow who will happily follow you from room to room and settle nearby while you work. Her foster dad works from home part time, and Novella is perfectly content hanging out beside him. Her foster mom works outside the home, so she is also learning that it’s okay when her people leave for a few hours.
Novella has plenty of energy for fun and absolutely loves playing outside. Her favorite game is chasing a ball across the yard — bringing it all the way back is still optional in her book. Once she’s had some playtime, she’s happy to settle into her favorite chair for a nap.
She knows “sit,” offers an adorable little paw lift when asked, and has a world-class sploot that keeps her foster family smiling.
Novella also takes her neighborhood-watch responsibilities seriously. She has an impressive voice and will let you know when someone new is approaching the house. She can be wary of unfamiliar people at first, but once she decides you’re a friend, she is affectionate, cuddly and full of love.
Novella has lived very comfortably with her foster dog brother and shares toys, beds, food and water without a problem. She could be happy with another compatible dog or as the only dog in her home.
She is still working through some reactivity when she sees people and dogs on walks and will need an adopter who is committed to continuing positive-reinforcement training with her. She also has some separation anxiety. She may protest when first left, but her foster family has seen on camera that she generally settles in her crate within about 10–15 minutes. At night, she may bark briefly when first crated but then settles and sleeps comfortably.
Because Novella can be vocal and cautious with new visitors, we think she would be happiest in a home without small children. She's also learning that riding in a car is good thing -- they take you on adventures!
Novella would be a great match for a moderately active home that wants an affectionate, funny and devoted Aussie companion — and people who will give her the consistency, training and reassurance she needs to keep building confidence.
This wiggly little cuddle bug has so much personality and love to give. Now she just needs her people.
