Meet Luna!

Luna is a beautiful 6-year-old black tri-Aussie who is currently available for adoption and being fostered in West Virginia.

At the shelter, Luna was considered shy. In foster care, her personality has really had a chance to come out. She’s smart, affectionate, opinionated, funny, and very much an Aussie. That’s the power of a foster home — giving a dog the time and space to settle in so we can really get to know who they are.

Luna loves hiking, walking, fetch, tug, and anything that lets her use both her body and her brain. She doesn’t need nonstop activity, but she will do best with a family committed to regular physical exercise, mental stimulation, and continued training.

Luna is a herder. She notices movement, likes to keep tabs on what everyone is doing, and can have definite opinions about how things should be managed — whether that’s another dog getting a little too rowdy, the mower moving across the yard, or the robot vacuum making its rounds. All very familiar traits to those who know and love herding breeds.

She currently lives with two male dogs, but she prefers to be in charge and has little patience for excitable or erratic behavior. She can coexist with other dogs, but she would likely be happiest as the only dog in the home. If she does live with another dog, a calm, polite, nonreactive companion would be the best fit.

Luna is housebroken, walks nicely on leash once her initial excitement settles, rides well in the car, and enjoys being close to her people. She’s also becoming increasingly expressive and will happily let you know when it’s time to play with her beloved ARMA duck.

Luna currently weighs about 48 pounds and should be closer to 40, so her new family will need to continue helping her reach a healthy weight through appropriate nutrition and exercise.

Luna is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She would be a wonderful match for someone with dog experience, especially with Aussies or other herding breeds, who wants a loyal, clever, active companion.
