DESCRIPTION

Meet our Short King: Bear!

***Important to note: While Bear is short, he is still considered a medium sized dog. He weighs a whopping 50lbs! Keep that in mind if you are wanting a smaller dog!***

Bear is about to turn 2 years old and is a mix of Australian Cattle Dog x Boston Terrier x A few other breeds.

You know those visual gag scenes where a guy sitting at a bar looks super mean and super tough, but then he stands up and he is actually really short?
That is the kind of moment we had when we first met Bear. We could see Bear in the pickup through the windows when his previous owner pulled in and we were instantly talking about how he's gunna be a big boy. Then a few minuets later, the door opens and we all went "Oh..?"
Turns out that Bear is actually a low rider and not a big bad mama jama!

Anyways, Bear was surrendered to HSHP after his previous owner decided he had too many dogs and issues were beginning to arise with in the packs attitude towards one another. We don't have the fullest of details on what exactly went down, but it's believed that Bear had began to go after the other males in the home especially during feeding time, treats, or a special toy. Given that this is a larger amount of dogs living together, it is possible this was the trigger to the sudden change is behavior for Bear. For now, we are gunna require any potential adopters with dogs to bring them all out to meet Bear. At least until we can do some testing of our own and get a better understanding of what Bear likes and does not like. It is very likely he may prefer to live with female dogs rather than males. We do not know if Bear has lived around cats or how he would do with them. We can arrange to have him meet our office cats prior to adopting to see. Bear has lived around children and did good with them. However! Given Bear's super shy nature, we would need to ensure potential children in his new home can and will respect his space while he goes through his 3 week adjustment period.

Please do note that Bear is rather when meeting new people and going new places. He has been very brave and sweet so far for us, but we are still allowing him time to decompress. He was born and raised on a farm and was used to the free roaming lifestyle and is not used to wearing a leash. He should pick up leash training super quick! He is reported to be housetrained but give him grace as he needs to adjust to a new routine!

This precious baby boy is current on his core vaccines and is ready to find a home with less dogs and more people love!
