Kaia
212-year-old Cattle Dog Mix
Kaia, formerly known as Pru from the Charmed litter, is a smart, silly, high-energy cattle dog mix who was adopted as a young puppy and is now looking for a new, right forever fit as an adult. She is looking for a home where she can feel safe, understood, and able to truly thrive.
Kaia is an incredibly playful, goofy girl with a huge personality. She loves being outside, running, playing, swimming, rolling in mud, carrying sticks, and investigating every tree for squirrels and birds. She has tons of energy and would be happiest with an active adopter who can offer more than daily walks - think yard time, hiking, structured play, enrichment, training, and adventures. She also has a sweet, snuggly side and loves curling up on the couch or in bed with her person. Belly rubs are very much appreciated.
Kaia is crate trained, potty trained, and knows several basic commands including sit, stay, down, and come. She does well being left home without separation anxiety, though she may bark a bit when her people leave. She loves routine, settles well at bedtime, and sleeps through the night. She can keep herself busy with hard toys and chews, and she will absolutely let you know when she needs to go outside.
Kaias previous home environment became increasingly stressful due to conflict with the resident dog, who had begun guarding spaces in the home, became aggressive towards Kaia, lunging with bared teeth and even pinning her down several times, and pulling tufts of her fur out. Because of this, Kaia started living with a lot of tension and uncertainty.
Some of the behaviors reported in the home may have been compounded by that environment and the resident dogs behavior. It is also important to note that Kaia reportedly did not show those same behaviors while staying at grandmas home. Since coming back to the rescue, Kaia has been understandably confused, but she has been a good girl and has not shown concerns with handling.
Kaias ideal home will be one who understand active herding breeds and are willing to give her structure, patience, and continued support. She needs a fenced yard and an adopter committed to helping her work through barrier-related reactivity. In her previous home, Kaia struggled with gates/ fences, closed doors, and certain household noises like blenders, sometimes barking, growling, lunging, or becoming difficult to redirect. She has never bitten anyone, but these behaviors do suggest she needs a more dog-savvy adopter who will manage her environment thoughtfully and would be willing to work with a trainer as needed during transition and beyond.
Outside of the home, Kaia has shown a much different side. She enjoys walks, public outings, parks, and pet-friendly stores. She is generally friendly or uninterested when meeting dogs on leash and enjoys one-on-one play with compatible dogs, especially dogs her size or smaller. She may be nervous around larger dogs, and because she attaches closely to her people, we believe she would do best as the only dog in the home, while still enjoying appropriate dog friends and playdates. She may be able to live with cats with proper introductions, as she has shown curiosity but no chasing toward cats she has met.
Like many clever, energetic dogs, Kaia has a few quirks. She has a high prey drive and can pull hard on leash when she spots small animals. She may counter-surf, get into trash, steal napkins or dishcloths. She loves to roll in dirt, mud, and sand.
Kaia is not a couch-potato dog, and she is not looking for a busy home with children or lots of chaos. But for the right adopter, someone active, patient, consistent, and willing to see the incredible dog underneath the stress, Kaia has so much to offer.
She is funny, affectionate, athletic, loyal, and full of life. She deserves a home where she can exhale, feel safe, and finally have the space and support to become her very best self.
Kaia is looking for someone who wont just love her fun, goofy, snuggly side but who will also understand her sensitive side and help her succeed. For the right person, she is going to be an unforgettable companion.
She will come spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and 4dx tested.
