Meet Sookie

Sookie is a 10‑week‑old, double merle Australian Shepherd who came into rescue alongside her sister after being surrendered by a commercial breeder in Lancaster County. She weighs about 10 lbs and is a sweet, social, and friendly little puppy who enjoys interaction and engagement with people.

Sookie does have significant sensory differences, and we want to be transparent so she can find the right home to thrive. She does not respond to sounds, and her vision appears to be very limited. Her right eye is smaller than the left and has partial lens opacity and clouding. That said, Sookie is doing an incredible job navigating the world in her own way - she relies heavily on her sense of smell and adapts confidently. During her veterinary evaluation, she was even able to play a gentle game of chase with a vet tech, showing awareness, curiosity, and engagement despite her limitations.

Sookie moves through her environment thoughtfully and shows no signs of fear. She would do best in a stable, patient home that understands differently-able dogs and is committed to continuing her confidence‑building through routine and positive reinforcement. A home with another social, dog‑friendly dog is strongly preferred, as canine companionship will be especially beneficial for her development and comfort.

Sookie may experience the world a little differently, but she is just as capable of giving love, joy, and devotion. She’s looking for a family who sees not her limitations but her potential.

She will come spayed, vaccinated, microchipped

She would need to meet any resident dogs. We will not adopt siblings together.
