Steven is one of those dogs who just needs someone to believe in him.
When volunteers first met Steven, he was terrified. Earlier shelter notes described a scared young dog who wouldn't even walk on a leash. But over time, with kindness and patience from the volunteers, he's started to blossom. Now his notes talk about how wiggly he is and how much he loves pets and baby talk.
One volunteer spent extra time with Steven and couldn't stop talking about what a sweet boy he is. She introduced him to another dog, and he did great. As he became more comfortable, he even rolled over in a submissive, trusting way. He patiently let her dress him up for pictures and all he really wanted was to nuzzle in close and be by her side.
Steven is still a little shy. He was too nervous to take treats directly from a hand, preferring to pick them up from the ground instead. But that's exactly what makes him so easy to root for. He's already come so far, and with a patient family, there's no doubt he'll continue to gain confidence.
