Our adoption application can be found at the bottom of this pet's bio. Once your application has been approved, we can arrange a virtual meet & greet with you and Barney.
Barney is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX and is eligible to transport to an adopter as soon as one is lined up :)
Meet Barney!
Barney is a 2 year old male staffordshire terrier mix. He is fully vaccinated, microchipped, neutered and ready to find his forever home! Barney currently weighs 75 pounds.
Barney came into the shelter with 2 other dogs and they were all huddled together, scared, shaking in the corner of the shelter. A volunteer was working tirelessly to network them and get them all out alive. Another rescue group saved Barney's brothers, but didn't have a foster available to save Barney. We could not let this sweet boy die in the shelter alone and were able to get him to safety with a foster!
Barney is incredibly dog friendly and would prefer to go to a home where he has a doggie companion! We would say that Barney has a medium energy level. Sometimes he gets the zoomies and likes to play, but inside, he's a couch potato. He plays SO well with other dogs and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He's a big softie.
Barney is cat friendly and currently lives with cats in his foster home, but he gets really excited and does chase the cats, so we would suggest a home with dog savvy cats. He just wants to play and has never been aggressive towards them.
Barney is also kid friendly! He currently lives with a 13 year old little girl and is so gentle with her. Due to his size, we would suggest a home with older children. He is also shy with sudden / loud noises.
Barney walks amazing on leash if he has another dog with him. He truly gains his confidence from having a dog friend. With another dog, he's incredibly brave! He will walk calmly by your side.
Barney is fully potty trained and is sure to only do his business outside. He's great about sharing toys, blankets, beds, etc with his doggie foster sibling. Barney is crate trained and does great in the crate. He is crated while his foster mom is away from the home for work or errands.
Here's a blurb about Barney from his foster mom:
Barney is a shy boy at first, but he's the biggest love bug! He's a lap dog, and you can't tell him otherwise! He's a lover boy and will soak up every ounce of love you're willing to give him.
Barney would do well at any activity level because he just wants to be with his people. He can play and be extra fun or he can sleep on his back with all four paws up while snoring and being a total bump on a log. He's literally the best! I think he'll mirror the vibe of his home/environment. As previously mentioned, Barney does need another dog in the home. He really enjoys having a dog playmate and companion.
He is an absolute love bug! We cuddle on the patio in the morning while I have my tea/coffee. He and Pheobe (his doggie foster sibling) are adorable together. They both sleep with me at night. He sleeps as long as I do. If I'm up and moving, so is he. If I'm tired and need to sleep in, he's sleeping in. He's so handsome, but his heart really is the best part of him. He's such a sweet boy!
He's shy when meeting strangers, but warms up quickly! He has had to do stays with other foster homes while I've had to go out of town and he's always integrated in no time. In the car, he stands and looks out the window for the first 10 minutes, but then he lays down for the rest of the ride. If you're looking for a gentle giant who will snuggle his way into your heart, Barney is your guy!
