DESCRIPTION

Our adoption application can be found at the bottom of this pet's bio. Once your application has been approved, we can arrange a virtual meet & greet with you and Selena.

Selena is currently in a foster home in Houston, TX and is eligible to transport to an adopter as soon as one is lined up.

Selena was found as a stray in an area of Houston that's very common for dumped / stray dogs. She was near a very busy and dangerous freeway. A security guard nearby said that her and her friend (who had also been caught) had been surviving for weeks. Selena really wanted to get to safety because she let us leash her up and take her to safety so easily!

Selena is a black lab mix and is estimated to be 3 years old. Selena is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed and ready to find her forever home!

Selena is going to be somebody's soul dog. You know the one, the dog people talk about for the rest of their lives, the one that makes you think you could adopt five more but also ruins you because nothing ever quite compares. That's Selena.

Selena is incredibly dog friendly! She plays well with other dogs and is great about reading their body language! When things get too rowdy, she belly flops and taps out. She is on the submissive side and has been great with every dog she's met. She eats alongside her foster siblings with zero tension and politely minds her own bowl even when others still have food down.

Selena is cat friendly! She has met the cat in her current foster home and she did great with her. No chasing and no tension between them.

Selena is kid friendly and has spent time around 6-year-old boys and was a complete natural! She was gentle, calm, and unbothered. She is the kind of dog that matches the energy in the room rather than adding to it, which makes her genuinely safe and sweet around kids of any age. No concerns here.

Even now, in a safe and loving foster home, the sight of a leash makes her sit and bow her head, but once it is on, Selena is a dream walker! She stays close, never pulls, and moves right alongside you. She is not darting after squirrels or zigzagging across the sidewalk, she just walks. Calmly and happily.

Selena is fully potty trained and this one is remarkable given that she came straight off the streets! Not a single accident. Ever. She figured it out immediately, which says a lot about how smart and adaptable she is. Selena is crate trained and is also able to be left to free roam! Either way, she is calm and content.

We would say that Selena's energy level is low to moderate, with an emphasis on low in the best possible way. Selena loves being outside and lights up on walks, but she is not a dog who needs to run miles or be constantly stimulated. She will happily spend hours napping on the couch, then perk up for a walk or a little play session with her foster sister, and call it a day. She is the definition of go-with-the-flow.

Here's a small blurb from Selena's foster mom about her:

Where do I even start?! Selena is the dog people describe when they talk about their soul dog, the one that makes everything feel simple. She gives kisses like it is her full-time job (and will stop respectfully when you ask, which is somehow even sweeter). She learned how to navigate stairs, doors, couches, and water bowl turns almost entirely on her own. She is observant and a quick study. She watches TV. She sits through baths without fuss. She takes her medicine in peanut butter like a champ. She sleeps through the night. She matches your pace on walks. She respects every boundary. She came from the streets and landed in a home like she had always lived in one. She has been a pleasure from day one.

Selena is timid at first when meeting strangers, but she always remains gentle. While she may be a little uncertain, there is no fear aggression, no reactivity, nothing to manage. She just needs a moment to warm up, and then she is all kisses! She is building confidence in her new life, and every positive interaction is a deposit in that bank.

Whoever gets to be the person to accept Selena into their family? They are going to feel like the luckiest person in the world. And they will be.

If you're interested in learning more about Selena or applying to adopt her, please fill out our adoption application below and a volunteer will reach out to coordinate a virtual meet & greet.
