Meet Marcus!
Marcus has had quite the journey to get where he is today. He was originally found as a stray in Quebec. He was picked up by the local animal control in rough shape with many wounds, scars and infections that indicated he had been living on the street for some time. Despite that, he was a friendly and social boy.
The shelter was full and Marcus was given a “deadline”. May 8. This is the day he would be euthanized if no rescue was found for him. Thankfully, we had a new cat foster and she agreed to take him in quite literally saving his life. Thanks to our friends at One Last Chance and Freedom Drivers, on May 8, instead of dying, Marcus made his way from Quebec to our rescue.
Since coming into foster care Marcus, who is approximatly 2 years old, has completely come out of his shell. What started as a shy boy who loved to hide has turned into a confident, social little guy who has decided that every person who walks through the door is potentially another set of hands available to pet him.
Marcus absolutely LOVES attention. He’ll be right there to greet you when you come home and will meow for pets the second you walk through the door. If you sit down, it won’t be long before he’s climbing onto your lap or settling in beside you. And if he notices that you have a perfectly good hand that isn’t currently petting him? He’ll happily headbutt it until you do. Marcus is a truly just a little lovebug. He’ll sleep with you every night and loves being close to his person.
Watching him become more confident, playful and social has truly been so special, and it feels like he’s finally realizing that people can be pretty great. He may regress in a new home so an adopter must be patient and allow him a safe space to gain confidence and transition on his own terms.
He loves his fishing-rod toy, but one of his favourite forms of entertainment is watching cat videos on YouTube. Marcus was skin and bones with terrible fur conditions when he came to us but he is now a healthy 7.4lb and his coat is gorgeous.
Marcus is FIV+ (feline immunodeficiency virus). This is a viral infection generally passed through saliva during severe fights. Unneutered male cats that roam outside - like Marcus did for some time - face the highest risk. Luckily infected cats can live long, healthy lives if kept indoors in low-stress homes. He does not require any special medication or care. If he did develop an infection of some kind, he would need vet care to ensure he is kept healthy like any other cat.
Marcus has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and had bloodwork and afecal test. He is in good health and is a perfect 7.4lb. Marcus also had a dental done while he was being neutered and had a few extractions. We don't know what his past life was life but he is quite opposed to going into a carrier and needs to be medicated to put him in. We used a wonderful mobile vet for his exam to make it less stressful for him.
Our adoption process includes an online application (see below), a virtual interview and home visit, a meet and greet with Marcus in Kitchener. His adoption fee is $250.
Please keep in mind that Marcus is a young boy and a long commitment. He must be kept indoors to keep him safe and healthy and ensure his safety.
Marcus is ready for a forever home where he can continue to thrive as the sweet, affectionate and social little boy he has become. He would love a family who will shower him with attention and happily provide plenty of pets whenever he asks for them. Because he has not been with any other animals while in our care, we are looking for a pet free home for Marcus where he can be the Prince of the household.
