Meet Bagel

This lovely beagle is new to our rescue. She came to us from a shelter in Ontario - she was found as a stray. Bagel is approximately 10 years old but has the energy and stamina of a much younger dog.

Despite all she has endured, Bagel has settled in nicely to her foster home. Her foster parents have only good things to share about this sweet beagle.

She loves going for walks and shows the typical beagle traits - she’s interested in squirrels and birds and all the good smells. She pulls a bit on her leash but is easily redirected. We are using a double leash protocol (one leash attached to a martingale and one leash attached to a harness) for extra safety. An active adopter is best for Bagel as she enjoys several walks a day.

She gets very excited when meeting other dogs on her walks - not in an aggressive way - just eager to meet the other dog. We’re not sure how she would be sharing her home with another dog or cat but she seems friendly with all. She is the only dog in her foster home. A meet and greet would be necessary.

Bagel has already learned some basic commands (sit and paw).

So far Bagel has not been too vocal in her foster home but beagles do have a loud bark - typically we suggest a detached house is best for beagles.

Beagles are notorious for following their nose so a very safely fenced back yard is a must. Beagles can not be trusted off leash.

We do not know how Bagel would be with young children so for this reason we feel she is best in a home with older children (10 years+). She would not do well being left alone for long hours during the day. Her foster parents work from home so she is used to having regular bathroom breaks during the day.

Once in our care Bagel was spayed and had a dental cleaning. She is up to date on her vaccines (she’ll have one more booster on September 24th) and microchipped. She is negative for heart worm and tick borne diseases.
Bagel weighs 16 kilos (35 pounds).
