Meet Carter!
Boy, does this handsome two-year-old Snowshoe Siamese mix have a story to tell...
We first spotted Carter in a managed cat colony near the Cleveland Zoo. At first he only showed up once in a while, but eventually he started coming around regularly. We tried to coax him into a carrier, but one of his back legs was sticking out. We didn't want to risk shutting the door on him and having him never trust us again. To make matters worse, the resident tuxedo female that ran the colony decided she didn't want him around and chased him away.
A week or two later, the family caring for the colony actually picked him up. They set him back down for just a second to grab a carrier...and poof, he was gone. They didn't see him again for weeks.
About a month and a half later, someone posted a photo on social media from 312 miles away asking if anyone knew who he belonged to. We saw the post and immediately recognized him. We couldn't believe it! But before anyone could get to him...poof, he disappeared again.
A few weeks after that, someone contacted us directly and said, Hey, this cat is on my porch.
The very next day, we were finally able to bring him to safety.
He was neutered, tested, vaccinated, microchipped, and has been enjoying the indoor life ever since.
We'll probably never know exactly how Carter ended up 312 miles from where we first met him. Maybe someone picked him up and drove him there. Maybe he followed the railroad tracks. Or maybe he was simply doing what intact male cats often do and wandered farther than anyone expected in search of a mate.
Whatever the reason, he's one of the lucky ones.
When we first met Carter, he had an injured back leg. Thankfully, it healed beautifully. Today hes healthy, active, and doesn't let anything slow him down.
Because of everything he's been through, we're looking for a family that will be committed to keeping him safely indoors for the rest of his life. He absolutely loves being inside, gets along wonderfully with other cats, and has settled into rescue life like he's always belonged.
We all love Carter so much, and we know there's a family out there that's going to love him just as much.
After surviving everything he has, wed love for the rest of Carters story to be the easy part.
