DESCRIPTION

Meet Salem!

Salem is a quiet, mellow and reserved companion. She enjoys some lap sitting, but seems to prefer to not be picked up. Head scratches and brushing are in the "yes" column, while loud or unpredictable voices are firmly in the "no" column. Once she's familiar and comfortable with her new surroundings, she seems to be generally content and unbothered.

She came into our care when there were medical symptoms that her previous owner was unable to manage. She received her spay surgery and spent some time in foster recovering from surgery and receiving treatment according to some findings on her bloodwork. She is now feeling much better and is ready to find a new home that is ready to spoil her rotten, because she definitely deserves to live the good life.

Salem is a wonderful mix of cuddly and independent. If you're willing to let her settle in at her pace until she feels comfortable, and provide a quiet and safe environment in which she can thrive, she will grace you with her presence and loving temperament. While cats always find a way to surprise you (so we can't make any guarantees), you should be able to reliably do normal human things like read the newspaper or use the sink without her demanding attention. She'll probably be snoozing away somewhere in a sun beam or tucked in a cozy corner instead. Despite her calm demeanor and senior status, she should still have plenty of encouragement to be active and should be provided with opportunities to exhibit healthy cat behaviors. Playing, scratching and climbing are all behaviors that may continue to develop, as she likely continues to be feeling better day by day.

Cats: Salem has previously displayed stress behaviors that could have been influenced by other cats in the home. Consideration of other cats in an adoptive home would depend on activity level, personality match and household set-up.
Dogs: Salem has previously lived with a small dog and may do well with a respectful, mellow dog in an adoptive home.
Children: Salem has previously lived with children and may prefer to live only with adults or respectful, quiet older children
