Little Tiger ACCT-A-250626 came to ACCT Philly on May 19th after her owner was evicted and facing homelessness. Little Tiger lived in the same home for five years and was described as very sweet, docile, and shy.
Little Tiger has been struggling with the adjustment to the shelter environment. She stayed in an office for a week with one of the cats she was surrendered with. She spent most of her time hiding and avoiding handling, though she never showed outward aggression. When staff attempted to restrain Little Tiger for her oral medication, she became fearful and scratched and bit a staff member. She has since successfully completed her rabies observation period and is now ready to leave the shelter. She will do best in a quiet household with experienced cat owners who understand that earning a fearful cat's trust is a process worth taking.

Behavior:
On 6/9 staff noted: I went to say hello to Little Tiger. Her eyes were fully dilated but she was out of her "hiding fort". She allowed interaction from a distance but did not approach for pets or attention. She seemed to settle a bit, eyes less dilated, ears forward, the more I talked to her and tried to interreact with her. Spent some time with her and then left it there. Will try again in a little while.
On 5/29 staff noted: "Medical Nurse was in my office this morning trying to give meds to both Little Tiger & Nougat. She was having a hard time catching Little Tiger as she was running around and trying to climb the window. I went out to get bite gloves and tried to use the cat bed to put on her so I can pin her softly down but she was getting loose and just as before from her running around she made her back claws bleed. We paused but when she went to hide by the cat tree she somehow got herself stuck pinned upside down I couldnt move the cat tree without her getting hurt so with the bite gloves I tried to help her up and thats when she bit my finger through the bite gloves. All of this was provoked she never goes out to attack shes just very stressed and would prefer to be left alone but I had told medical she doesnt eat the wet food so she needs the meds so we were able to get the meds in her eventually but she never intentionally tries to hurt people only when provoked.
On 5/29 staff noted: Little Tiger spent the past week in our office. She is a very scared girl and spent most of her time hiding, either with her brother or separate. We were briefly able to hold her in a towel that first day to get pictures of her injured toes. Throughout the week, there were times she panicked and ran around the room or jumping up the windows. She was never outwardly aggressive, just avoidant. Today, staff was restraining her for medication as she was not eating it in wet food, and she bit and scratched. We had to move her out of the office to complete her quarantine.
On 5/22 staff noted: Was tolerant of pets from an ACA so I decided to move her to my office. She has no scruff so when trying to get her, she got loose and went under the kennel across from hers. They got her out the other end in a towel and we put the entire towel into the den. Immediately went to my office and opened the den and unwrapped her. She was frozen in place on her back and as I unwrapped her I saw that all of her hind claws were broken and bleeding. Immediately called for the vet I knew was nearby.
On 5/22 staff noted: Little Tiger's pupils were very large yesterday after surgery and this morning before she got loose.
On 5/21 staff noted: TTA due to having tense body, running around room, and wide eyes. Starting on gaba.
Per surrender notes 5/19: Very nice & sweet, no hissing, very docile, shy. Low energy. Fully litter trained. Lived with two other cats. Shy but sweet with strangers. Reaction to children and dogs unknown. Ideal home described as a nice, stable, calm, loving home with stability.
