Dolly ACCT A-259144 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to medical concerns. Dolly must have confirmed placement with an EXPERIENCED ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH at 10AM. Should Dolly's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Dolly was picked up by ACCT Philly as a stray on 8/20 when a kind stranger found her needing care due to scratching excessively at her irritated skin. Dolly was very friendly from the onset and went into the carrier with ease. Since arriving at the shelter, she has quickly charmed staff, and remains social, affectionate, and very chatty.
However, Dolly's skin issues have not resolved in the shelter despite several treatments, and she likely will require a strict hypoallergenic food trial to get to the root of what we suspect are very serious allergies.
On 9/1, staff noted, "Dolly was so happy to get some attention. She perked up when she saw me and heard me talking to her. Immediately got up to come to greet at front of kennel. Accepted all pets all over body and ate treats happily. Perfect little lady!"

During Dolly's initial vet exam, she was noted to have bleeding excoriations and miliary dermatitis on head and neck, small patches of alopecia on trunk, and flea dirt. Both her skin scrape and woodslamp yielded negative results for sarcoptic mange or ringworm. She was given a long-lasting, infectible antibiotic, both topical and oral flea treatment, a topical cream for the more severely afflicted areas, and an injectable glucocorticoid steroid to help calm her inflammation.

Dolly received a follow-up exam, during which we unfortunately did not find notable improvement in her skin. She was started on daily oral prednisone, and monitored for comfort.
9/2
Still, Dolly's skin remained unchanged, despite over a week on 1 mg/kg of daily oral prednisolone. Our veterinarians decided to taper Dolly off the medication, and she received a dose of Bravecto. It's recommended that Dolly start a food trial as the next diagnostic step.
Dolly has so much affection to share, we would love to see her become the center of attention and enjoy a commitment to long-term care.
