Peyton - Domestic Medium Hair Cat for Adoption in New York, New York

Peyton is sitting upright in his den with wide dilated eyes. At the sight of the assessor, she backs up into den. When presented with a scratcher tool with treats, she raises his paw fast to strike. The tool is held still until she places her paw down and a gentle pet on her head is attempted and she strikes at the tool, spitting and hissing. The interaction is ended to avoid increasing fear, anxiety, and stress.

Peyton is not open to interaction at this time and does not currently tolerate petting or handling. Because her previous owner reports when she gets comfortable she becomes affectionate, talkative, active, and playful in a home environment, we believe the behavior seen in the care center is shelter-specific and this cat would make a great pet, but is really struggling in the shelter environment. Due to the behaviors seen in the care center, we feel that this cat will do best in an experienced, home with adopters who are willing to work with a cat who needs time and patience to help her adjust to their new home.
