Poppy Seed is a very sweet black kitty and so handsome! He is curious, playful, talkative and confident with a great personality and was a wonderful companion to a toddler and adults. He was about 1 year old as of July, 2026 when he entered the shelter. Poppy Seed's former family have a baby that developed a rare skin condition so they had to re-home their pets. He was used to living with large breed active dogs, other cats, a baby and a toddler, so has no problem with a lot of activity and is very social and tolerant. He genuinely plays with his toddler companion, even joining in on the jungle gym. He's remarkably tolerant of the noise and activity that come with a young family and seems to enjoy being right in the middle of the fun. For all his adventurousness, Poppy is a devoted companion, following his people from room to room and is quite the Chatty Cathy, happily carrying on conversations throughout the day. Affectionate without being intrusive. sometimes no one even notices Poppy settling in until they look down and discover him quietly curled up beside them. He simply likes being wherever his people are.

Poppy's name means remembrance, chosen in honor of a beloved black cat who came before him. Black male cats are so often overlooked in shelters, and Poppy is a wonderful example of what extraordinary companions they can be.

Unfortunately, Poppy needs a new home because of a child's medical condition, through absolutely no fault of his own. The hope is to find a family who will appreciate him for exactly who he is: a fearless little explorer, toddler playmate, conversationalist, quiet cuddler, and constant shadow.
