Thing Two came second out of the box, and if you only glance, you might file him under "ordinary grey pigeon." Look again.
His body is deep slate, wings marbled in charcoal check, but the throat catches the light in bottle-green and violet, and a neat white cere resting over the beak like a tiny heart. That shimmer isn't paint or dye; it's the way light bends off the feather itself, which is why it flickers and vanishes as he turns.
Like his sibling, Thing Two started life the hard way: a nestling found on the ground with a hurt leg, far too small to make it alone. Ezra hand-raised him through the squeaky, unsteady stage and out the other side, leg mended, into the healthy young adult here.
He's a shy one, still weighing whether you can be trusted — but that reserve is thawing, and every bold new day earns a little more of his confidence. Winning him over is the whole reward. Non-identical to the end, Thing One and Thing Two are ready to be adopted independently, each off to write his own story. Thing Two's ideal home is calm and safe, with soft footing to perch on and someone patient enough to be there the day he decides you're his.
