Two racing survivors. Two different Chicago neighborhoods. One foster home where they met, fell for each other, and became each other’s permanent situation. Kimchi and Kewpie are a pair now, which means you get both of them, which — once you meet them — will feel like an excellent arrangement.
Kimchi came in from Edgewater, found near the Granville Red Line stop with a broken left wing and a left eye that had taken some damage along the way. The eye recovered, though it retained a slightly off-kilter look that everyone who meets him finds, frankly, extremely charming on him. The wing is a different story — given where the break sits, flight seems unlikely to return, which means Kimchi is a ground-level bird now. He has processed this information and moved on. He has bigger concerns, namely: being funny. Kimchi is bold, opinionated, and possessed of a true comedic sensibility. He does bits. He has timing. He is, by multiple accounts, a lot of fun to have around, and he knows it!
Kewpie was found at Daley Center in the middle of downtown Chicago, keeping company with a street flock in the way that lost domestic birds sometimes do while clearly not quite belonging there. When a GLPR volunteer approached her, she gratefully allowed herself to be picked up. Kewpie correctly assessed the situation and decided that yes, this was the help she had been waiting for. She is still to this day a perceptive and calm bird - and also deeply motivated by the offer of a good treat. She is a truly sweet soul who accepts kindness with grace.
Together they are a study in complementary personalities: Kimchi providing the entertainment, Kewpie providing the gentle sweetness, and both of them patiently awaiting their forever home!
