About Rheas

The rhea is a large, flightless bird native to South America. They belong to the ratite group and are closely related to ostriches and emus. Rheas have 3 species, the greater rhea, the lesser rhea, and the Darwin's rhea. They have long legs, a long neck, and small wings that are used for balance as they run. Rheas are primarily herbivores, feeding on grasses, fruits, and seeds, and are known for their social behavior and impressive speed when running.
