The Eastern Musk Turtle, also known as the Sternotherus odoratus, is a small freshwater turtle commonly found in the eastern United States. Recognized by its dark brown to black shell and distinct musky odor, this species prefers shallow, slow moving waters with plenty of aquatic vegetation. Eastern Musk Turtles are known for their shy and solitary nature, often hiding amongst rocks and logs. With a diet consisting mainly of invertebrates and small fish, these turtles play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance of their habitat.
