YOKI

Yorkshire Terrier
🇺🇸
Springfield, Massachusetts
April 22nd
male, small, adult

DESCRIPTION

Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and will bite if people push or try to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, they often become very bonded. OTHER PETS: Yoki was interested in meeting another dog, but got nervous and backed up. Yoki may be more comfortable with dogs more similar to his size who are well socialized with a relaxed demeanor, and should meet any dogs he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: [First Dog] KIDS: Yoki is nervous but tolerant of handling, and prefers to be in the company of humans rather than play with toys; as he warms up to humans quickly if given the ability to do so at his pace. Kids should always be actively supervised around dogs. [13+ Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Yoki is most interested in sitting on laps, followed by waiting for laps to appear so that he can sit in them. If you are looking for a binge buddy Yoki is your dog! Physical activity is important, so make sure Yoki has the chance to play and get his exercise so he can continue being a couch potato for a long time. Regular exercise combined with mental enrichment will help meet his needs.[Couch Potato] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Yoki bond with his new owner, build confidence, and learn new skills and fun tricks. [Moderate] GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Yoki's fur clean & matt-free between grooms; he should be groomed every 6 - 8 weeks. [Professional Grooming]
