Yorkshire Terrier Dogs Available for Adoption in Rochester, New York

BUDDY YORKIE

Yorkshire Terrier
🇺🇸
Rochester, New York
May 28th
male, small, young

DESCRIPTION

BUDDY came to us as a surrender and only just turned a year old. He's some kind of Yorkie mix, who we got vetted and neutered and up to date, and is now with one of our fosters waiting for his home. He likes people and is good with other dogs, but was NOT good with the cats in his first foster home, so we had to move him. He came to us quite underweight and scraggly looking, but we know he will reach his full potential in no time at all with our foster's continued TLC. Now that he's been in the rescue a few weeks, it's time to let everyone know about this little lapful. He does NOT like a crate and we feel he'd be too loud and barky in an apartment, but he'd love a lap of his very own to snuggle on and a person to keep an eye on. He came to us a little under 15 lbs. We will admit it - Buddy will take a patient adopter. He can be difficult and has bitten at his foster. He's a challenging dog overall - but we're willing to offer an extended trial adoption for anyone willing to give this little cutie a chance. One thing to note that it seems Buddy is very leash reactive - he's been great with all of the dogs of all sizes he has met in person so far, but when on a LEASH out on walks, if he sees another dog, he lunges and tries to get them like he is out to kill. It happens - some dogs are 100% different dogs when they are on a leash or behind a barrier. But in person, he has not yet met a dog of any size that he doesn't like.

Adoption fee INCLUDES: all vetting to age (including deworming, flea & tick etc), spay/neuter and microchip (if the dog is under 6 months, alter and chip will occur after they're 6 months, covered in full at our clinic or reimbursed partially at a vet of your choosing). If the dog is older than 6 months and not yet altered, we will schedule ASAP (normally within 30 days) at our clinic . We also provide as an incentive a $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes. Adoption also includes lifetime support of the rescue.

Please fill out an APPLICATION here for consideration: www.secondhanddogerscue.com/apply (copy and paste link into browser window if link is not active in your browser).

We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely volunteer foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available.

IMPORTANT NOTES: ** Housetraining with rescues is sometimes a work in progress and even if a dog is 100% in a foster's home, it should be expected there will be an adjustment period as a dog adapts to a new environment. This is even more true if the dog has not by chance had their altering appointment at time of adoption. ** Also, we highly recommend some form of 2-week shutdown and decompression for dogs going to a new home for best results. --> Lastly, breed guesses in rescue are just that (GUESSES!!) 99.9% of the time. We do not do DNA testing and our breed guesses are based on appearance and sometimes other traits, but we know the dog breed guessing game is a fool's errand even for those with LOTS of experience.

PLEASE NOTE: If a dog is listed as Adoptable, he or she is still available at that time. Also, our adoption area is within a several hour radius of us in Rochester, NY (Canada within 3 hours IS allowed, except that young puppies need to be old enough to have gotten their rabies vaccination to cross the border - usually around 16 weeks)
