___
Loki is a 6.5-month-old (estimated DOB January 2026), male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He is being fostered in Houston, Texas, and can transport to an approved adopter arranged by the rescue. A photo of his mom, Wanda, is included in the profile for reference. She weighs approximately 55 pounds. While we don't know what the puppies are mixed with, they're all expected to be on the larger side.
This little family was rescued from the woods in a rural, well-known dumping area outside of Houston. Wanda gave birth to her litter during a Texas freeze, and a kind networker discovered her with her 2-day-old puppies. We were able to bring Mom and all six puppies to the safety of a foster home, where they've had the chance to grow up loved and cared for.
Loki is the fearless little ringleader of the pack, always the first to investigate something new and loudly announcing his presence like he's ten times his size. Brave, bold, and endlessly entertaining, he approaches life with confidence, curiosity, and a sense of adventure that keeps everyone laughing.
He's an expert climber and certified furniture parkour champion, happily conquering couches, ottomans, and anything else he can scale. When he gets hold of his favorite toy, Loki turns into a mastermind of harmless chaos, daring his siblings to catch him in a game of keep-away. He also has a habit of waking everyone from their naps because, according to Loki, playtime should always start immediately.
Now an older puppy, Loki has the best of both worlds. He still has plenty of playful energy, but he's beginning to settle into an incredible companion. He is potty trained, although, like any dog adjusting to a new home, a few accidents should be expected while he learns a new routine.
Although Loki is fearless by nature, he can occasionally be a tiny bit hesitant with brand-new experiences. It never lasts long. Once he realizes everything is okay, he's right back in the middle of the action. He absolutely loves food and has no problem squeezing his way to the front of the line for treats or dinnertime.
Despite all his nonstop antics and energy, Loki has an incredibly sweet side. After a full day of adventures, zoomies, and harmless chaos, he crashes hard and transforms into the perfect cuddly lap buddy who just wants to snuggle up with his people.
Loki loves people, loves other dogs, and truly seems to love life. He recently attended a community event where he happily greeted adults and children alike, soaking up every bit of attention. He's the kind of dog who brings joy wherever he goes. Goofy, affectionate, playful, and endlessly loving, Loki will greet you like you're the best part of his day, every single day.
He has spent some time in a crate and does well, although due to his age we don't crate him for extended periods. He has been around children but has not yet been tested with cats. He's also continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience and is eager to learn.
Although Loki is past the tiny-puppy stage, he is still very much an adolescent and is continuing to learn about the world around him. He's looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building his confidence, and helping him mature into an exceptional adult dog. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help him thrive.
One of the most important things for a dog this age is continued socialization. Safe, positive experiences with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs help build lifelong confidence. We love seeing our young dogs grow up with a well-adjusted canine role model in the home. A resident dog can help teach appropriate play, communication, and boundaries in ways humans simply can't replicate, so we prefer homes that already have another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor and guide Loki.
That said, we understand that not every home has another dog. If you don't currently have one, we'd love to hear your plan for continued socialization. Structured training classes, supervised daycare, regular playdates with trusted dogs, and other safe, positive experiences are all wonderful ways to help set Loki up for success.
Because Loki is still a young dog, we also prefer homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time. He'll continue to benefit from regular potty breaks, exercise, enrichment, training, and human interaction as he grows into adulthood.
Raising a young dog takes time, patience, flexibility, and dedication, but the reward is an incredible lifelong companion who trusts you completely and grows into a confident, well-balanced dog. If you're ready for a home filled with laughter, adventure, cuddles, and just the right amount of harmless chaos, Loki is ready to become your new best friend.
