Hello! My name is Albert. I'm a 5yearold Yorkie boy, about 10 lbs, and I'm searching for a patient, dogsavvy adopter who understands that some pups need a little extra time and guidance. I need someone who can provide me with structure. I'm curious, fun, and adventurous, just needing a second or two to warm up to new people. I can be choosy about other dogs, but could be comfortable having a larger doggy sibling as long as they are more mellow.
Favorite Things: Albert loves his walks—he's practicing not barking at people and other dogs, and he's making progress. Toys are his treasures. He can be a bit possessive of them, though he's learning to play fetch and has shown improvement in his foster home. He's an energetic little guy who adores doing zoomies!
Training & Manners: Albert is housebroken in his foster home and reliably does his business outside or on walks after meals. He's foodmotivated, not picky about his treats, and is learning basic commands like sit, down, and wait. He's also an independent player who enjoys keeping himself entertained. He is learning to walk nicely on leash, tolerates a car ride, and is working on polishing his manners. Like many young pups, he still has some “puppy nipping,” . Redirection works best for him.
Health and Care: Albert is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and had a recent dental cleaning. Like any dog, he will need his monthly flea and heartworm prevention. As a Yorkie, he may need periodic grooming for his coat and nail trims. He's done well for groomers in the past! He sometimes uses an ear wash weekly, which costs about $10 a month.
Other Animals: Albert loves to have his person all to himself and would not mind being the only dog in the home. He is hesitant of the larger dogs (50 and 70 lbs) in his foster home though has opened up to them slightly. We feel he would be bossy/rude with a pushier small dog, so we do not think this would be best for Albert. He would likely do ok with a large, confident and well-mannered dog who has no history of resource guarding. A larger dog would need to be assessed with Albert prior to adoption. He would not do well with feline friends.
Children: Albert does not like being forced into positions and doesn't appreciate manhandling of any kind. For this reason, homes with children under 13 would likely not be a good fit for Albert.
Ideal Home: Albert isn't choosy and would do okay in a house, apartment, townhouse or condo. Like any dog, His DREAM home would be a singlefamily home with a fenced yard so he can safely run, explore, and get his zoomies out. He can stay home alone for several hours without issues, and when you return, he's ready to play! At night, he sleeps well in his secure space and waits patiently for morning.
