MEET BRUCE!

Bruce joined City of Elderly Love after being surrendered to Philadelphia's animal control shelter due to medical concerns at the age of 14 years old. Since joining the rescue, he's had a benign head lump and 13 teeth removed. Now with a clean bill of health, next up is finding his forever home!

Bruce has the best old man personality - he's a little grumpy but a total marshmallow underneath. He loves to be by his person, snoozing away in a home office or snuggled up on the couch. He walks like a dream on a leash with the cutest old man waddle, and adorably bounces up and down while waiting to be served his meals. Not only does Bruce have a very healthy appetite for a small dog, but he takes daily anxiety medication without any drama! Bruce is sprightly for age: he goes up and down stairs and shows off his daredevil side by jumping off beds and couches. But he also doesn't mind being picked up when needed, like when he's feeling a bit stiff.

While Bruce lives with two larger dogs in foster care, he gets along best with more low-key dogs who won’t be in his space. Mind you, he won't hesitate to sweetly sleep next to them, but he prefers dog interactions on his own terms. He's not afraid to tell a dog to back off when necessary. Bruce has not been cat-tested, but doesn’t show any prey drive and may do well with a cat familiar with dogs and who gives him his space. Bruce would also be happy to be your own and only! Since he gets a bit mouthy when grumpy, he'd do best in a home with older kids who know to give him space when he’s chilling.

Bruce would thrive in a home that can offer him routine and structure to continue building up his confidence. Since going on anxiety medications, his indoor accidents have significantly decreased, and he can also be crated while home alone. Now that he feels safe and healthy, he is ready to blossom into someone's loyal companion!
