Miles, 3-4 years old, neutered male, Terrier mix, 20 pounds. He's in a foster home in San Antonio, Texas and available to transport.
Miles came from a hoarding situation of over 80 dogs where they were surrendered to the county shelter in Houston. Miles facing euthanasia when his foster spotted him and offered to give him a place to crash!
If you’re looking for a low-maintenance companion with a heart full of love, Miles might just be your perfect match! This handsome boy is the definition of a gentle soul. He’s happiest curled up beside his favorite people, soaking up affection, or enjoying a little playtime with his favorite toys. Miles doesn’t need grand adventures or endless exercise to be happy. Give him a cozy spot, a few squeaky plush toys, and someone to love, and he’s living his best life!
Miles is a pretty laid-back fellow who enjoys the company of other dogs. He’s happy to invite a friend to play but understands when another dog isn’t interested and respects their boundaries. He has enjoyed the company of dogs ranging from 25 to 75 pounds and would likely appreciate a canine sibling for occasional play sessions and companionship, although another dog isn’t a requirement.
He does get excited when meeting other dogs and may pull enthusiastically, but he can also be a little skittish in unfamiliar situations. He’s still learning to feel confident, so patient introductions and positive experiences will help him continue to blossom.
One important thing to know: Miles LOVES toys and sometimes thinks the best toy is the one another dog already has! He may try to sneak a toy or bone from a canine friend, so a home that can provide plenty of toys and supervise shared playtime will be appreciated.
Miles is incredibly affectionate and cuddly. Seriously, this boy is a professional snuggler! He loves being near his people and will happily curl up beside you for a cozy afternoon. He even enjoys snuggling with his foster brother, Adonis.
When Miles first arrived in rescue, he appeared to have had very limited human interaction. As a result, he can be timid and hesitant around new people. He may shake or cower when feeling unsure, and he seems to warm up more quickly to women than men. The wonderful news is that he has made tremendous progress over the past few months. With patience, kindness, and time to build trust, Miles continues to discover that people can be pretty wonderful.
He has lived around teenagers as young as 13 and could do well with respectful children around age 10 and older who understand his gentle nature and give him space when needed. His experience with younger children is unknown.
Miles is a dream for someone looking for a calmer lifestyle. He has moderate energy during playtime but doesn't require long walks, strenuous hikes, or hours of exercise. Short play sessions, light walks, and plenty of relaxation are more his speed.
He is fully potty trained, crate trained, and does well when left alone for short periods. He knows the command "kennel" and is happy to head into his crate when a high-value treat is involved, naturally! He sleeps a lot and has done well when given some freedom in the house, although his comfort with longer periods loose and unsupervised is still being assessed. He has shown a willingness to learn leash manners and responded well to guidance
Miles has not been tested with cats, so his compatibility with feline friends is unknown.
A Few of Miles' Favorite Things
Plush toys, especially the squeaky kind!
Snuggling with his favorite humans
Cozy naps (he is an enthusiastic sleeper)
Spending time with his canine friends
Being close to his people
Finding out what delicious food is on the menu (he can be a bit of a food critic!)
Miles can be a little particular about his meals and has some grazing tendencies, but he has done well eating alongside other dogs and has shown no concerns with people around his food.
The bottom line? Miles is an easygoing, affectionate sweetheart who has so much love to give. He may need a little extra time to trust you, but once you become his person, you'll have a devoted shadow who wants nothing more than to be by your side. He doesn't need a big house, an adventurous lifestyle, or a packed schedule. Just a loving home, a soft place to land, some squeaky toys, and someone who understands that the best adventures are sometimes simply snuggling on the couch.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
