Beignet "Bennie" Boudreaux - Terrier Dog for Adoption in Farmington, Missouri

Twenty-six pounds of pure popcorn.

That may be the best way to describe Beignet, better known as Bennie Boudreaux. Bennie is a happy, bouncy, playful little Terrier mix with a big personality packed into a wonderfully manageable 26-pound package. He has plenty of energy for adventures, walks and playtime, but when the day is done, this little firecracker is more than happy to trade in his popcorn routine for the couch, the bed and, preferably, a spot under the covers with his person.

Bennie does great on a leash and gets along very well with other dogs. He can occasionally get a little bossy with dogs his size or smaller, so thoughtful introductions are always a good idea. He would likely do well with children over the age of five who understand how to interact respectfully with dogs. We don't know how Bennie feels about cats, so for now we're calling that one an unknown.

Bennie is crate trained and does wonderfully in his crate overnight. He's still polishing up his house-training skills, but he's making great progress. With a consistent routine and a family willing to continue teaching him, we think he'll have it mastered in no time.

Now, Bennie does have one little quirk: he doesn't hand out his trust like free samples at Costco.

He's friendly and affectionate once he knows you, but he likes to take a little time to assess new people. He's particularly cautious around unfamiliar men. We don't view that as a reason to rule out a male adopter at all. In fact, Bennie's brother had the very same hesitation and was ultimately adopted by a male over-the-road truck driver. Today, those two are absolutely inseparable.

Bennie simply needs someone willing to let him decide, in his own time, Yep. You're my person. Once you make the cut, you'll discover a funny, affectionate little companion who loves being close to his humans and makes a pretty spectacular couch and bed buddy.

Bennie is medium-to-high energy and would love a home where he gets regular walks, playtime and opportunities to use that busy little brain. He tolerates car rides, although he isn't currently campaigning to become your full-time copilot. He does need a securely fenced yard anytime he's outside off leash. Otherwise, he's perfectly happy heading out with you on leash.

What kind of home are we hoping to find for Bennie Boudreaux?

One that appreciates a dog with personality. One that understands trust can be earned rather than demanded. One that will keep teaching him, laughing at him, playing with him and eventually wondering how they ever slept without a 26-pound Terrier wedged underneath the blankets.

Because underneath all that popcorn...

Bennie is really just looking for somewhere to belong.

Bennie is currently being lovingly cared for in Livingston, Texas, but distance doesn't have to stand between you and your new best friend! We work with trusted, USDA-certified pet transport partners and regularly help our dogs travel safely to their forever homes across much of the United States.
We'll gladly help coordinate transportation and guide you through every step of the adoption process. His foster is also VERY open to live calls (e.g. FaceTime, Messenger) so you can meet your future bestie "in person" virtually!
