Meet Ivy! If you walk past Ivy’s kennel, you might miss her. The loud noises and fast pace of the shelter can feel overwhelming for her sensitive soul, so she often retreats to the back—quietly waiting, hoping someone will see her for who she truly is. But Ivy isn’t a “difficult” dog—she’s simply a gentle girl who needs to know she’s safe.
Ivy is believed to be around 2 years old and weighs approximately 63–65 lbs. She is fully grown. While we cannot confirm her breed without a DNA test, her medical record lists her as a Pit Bull–type/ Retriever mix. Please don’t let outdated stereotypes stand in her way—dogs like Ivy are known for their loyalty, affection, and deeply loving nature.
We don’t know much about her past, but she was found as a stray in Texas back in March and has been living in the shelter ever since. Shelter life has been tough on her, but even through the stress, Ivy has remained incredibly sweet and gentle.
Once she feels safe, her true personality begins to shine. She is incredibly affectionate, loves people, and does wonderfully with other dogs—and even cats! She recently had a sleepover in a foster home and was the perfect house guest with all of her furry roommates. Because of this, we believe she could thrive in a home with other pets and may even benefit from a confident canine companion to help guide her.
Ivy is still building her confidence and will need a patient, understanding adopter who can help her navigate the world at her own pace. She may need a little encouragement to head out on walks, but once she’s outside, she slowly takes it all in—growing braver with each step. She will also benefit from continued guidance with basics like house training, leash skills, and adjusting to life in a home.
Her ideal home is calm, structured, and full of kindness. She’s not looking for a high-energy lifestyle—she’s looking for a peaceful environment where she can feel secure and loved. A fenced yard would be ideal for her to explore safely, and a quieter setting (rather than a busy city environment) would likely help her thrive. She may do best with older, patient children who can respect her gentle and shy nature.
We truly believe that with the right person, Ivy will blossom into the most devoted, affectionate companion. She is the kind of dog who forms deep, meaningful bonds—and she’s just waiting for someone to give her that chance.
Sadly, the shelter Ivy is in is severely overcrowded, and dogs like her are at risk simply due to lack of space. We cannot pull her without a committed adopter.
Ivy deserves so much more than a kennel. She deserves a home, a family, and someone who sees the beauty in the quiet moments.
Health:
Ivy is spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly preventatives. She is healthy and ready for her new beginning.
