Meet Spiro!
A dog with a personality as big as his namesakes—whether you’re thinking of a purple dragon or a classic Greek character, our Spiro is truly one-of-a-kind.
Spiro is believed to be around 2 years old and currently weighs about 50 lbs. We don’t expect him to get much bigger. While we can’t confirm his breed without a DNA test, his medical records list him as a Black Mouth Cur mix.
This handsome boy is an absolute head-turner, with sparkly eyes that look like they’re perfectly lined with permanent eyeliner. He knows he’s got the looks—but it’s his personality that really steals the show.
Spiro was found roaming the streets of Texas, and unfortunately, we don’t know much about his past. What we do know is that he’s been living in a shelter since February, and he’s more than ready to leave kennel life behind for a home of his own. Despite everything, he’s remained gentle, hopeful, and incredibly eager to connect with people.
He has the perfect mix of playful energy and sweetness. Spiro loves to explore, play, and soak up affection from everyone he meets. He’s dog-friendly, loves people, and truly embodies that happy-go-lucky personality we all adore. One thing to note—Spiro is not a fan of cats, so a cat-free home will be best for him.
He’s also a great walking partner! While he generally does well on leash, he occasionally tries to “walk himself” by grabbing it—because, of course, Spiro always has a plan. Like most young dogs, he would benefit from continued guidance with basics like house training, leash manners, and confidence-building in new environments.
Spiro would thrive in a home that offers structure, patience, and lots of love. Daily exercise, regular potty breaks, and mental enrichment will help him grow into a well-rounded companion. A fenced yard would be a bonus for him to run and explore, but apartment or condo living may be considered for the right adopter committed to meeting his needs.
Sadly, Spiro has become one of the shelter’s longer residents—a title we are desperate for him to lose. The shelter is severely overcrowded, and dogs like Spiro are at risk simply due to lack of space. We cannot pull him without a committed adopter.
Spiro deserves so much more than a kennel. He deserves a fresh start—a life filled with adventures, couch cuddles, and endless belly rubs. Don’t let this quirky, handsome boy wait another day.
Health:
Spiro is neutered, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm negative, and on monthly preventatives. He is healthy and ready to begin his next chapter.
Transport Information:
Spiro is currently located in Texas and will be transported to his adopter once adoption is finalized. Transport is included in the adoption fee.
Please note: Breed labels are educated guesses. We encourage adopters to focus on personality, compatibility, and lifelong commitment rather than breed.
