Lazarus Was Forgotten, But He Refused to Give Up Hope!
Some stories are hard to tell because they break your heart. Lazarus's story is one of them. But it is also a story of survival, hope, and a second chance.
When our friends in the Rio Grande Valley reached out about a husky desperately needing help, Hoardin' Huskies and Hounds of Freedom immediately joined forces. We knew his situation was critical, but nothing could have prepared us for what we found.
Hidden behind a property in Peñitas, Texas, Lazarus spent his days and nights tied to a tree. The cord around his neck was so short and tight that he couldn't comfortably lie down or rest. To sleep, he literally had to climb against the trunk of the tree just to find a position that brought him a little relief. Alone, forgotten, and out of sight, he endured a life no dog should ever know.
When rescuers finally reached him, he cried.
It was as if he had been waiting all along for someone to see him, to hear him, to save him. That day changed everything.
We named him Lazarus because he was reborn into the life he always deserved.
When Lazarus arrived in our care, years of neglect were evident. His coat was so severely matted that we had no choice but to shave him down completely to make him comfortable. Underneath all that tangled fur was a beautiful husky waiting to shine. Now, with proper care, good nutrition, and love, his gorgeous coat is growing back beautifully, and every day he looks more and more like the stunning dog he was always meant to be.
Despite everything he has suffered, Lazarus has held onto his gentle spirit. He is incredibly loving, eager to please, and will happily wrap his paws around you for one of his signature hugs. He is dog-friendly, redirects easily, and has done exceptionally well with house training. Most amazingly, this beautiful boy still trusts people and longs to be loved.
