Chief is a handsome 5 year old 12lb Shih Tzu who had a rough start to life but loves the way it is going now. He is a strong, confident boy who can also be fearful and sensitive, so he’s looking for an experienced, patient person who understands how to work with a dog who likes to have things his way. Chief would do best with older kids, ideally 13–14+, who can respect his boundaries and understand that he’s not a “rough and tumble” kind of guy. He can be territorial and has some resource-guarding behaviors, so continued training and consistency will be important. He would do best as the only dog or with a calm, non-reactive canine companion. He does enjoy playing with toys and can be very sweet and cuddly once he trusts you.
Chief is also:
Good in the car
Food motivated and eats well
Enjoys toys and playtime
Loves to cuddle
Sleeps well
Does well off leash and responds to his name
Good with other dogs when properly matched
He is still working on his potty manners and may occasionally mark indoors, so his new family should be prepared to continue that training.
Chief isn’t looking for just anyone—he’s looking for his person. Someone confident, patient, consistent, and willing to help him feel safe while teaching him appropriate boundaries. In return, Chief has plenty of affection, loyalty, and goofy personality to give.
