Two Donuts are better than none! Meet Honey and Munchkin Donut, bonded besties! Honey is approx. 1-years-old, weighing 6 pounds while Munchkin is approx. 10-months-old, weighing 7 pounds (as of 7/2/26). The DONUT litter are a-dough-rable Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix pups aka Shorkies who were rescued from a hoarder situation in western Massachusetts.
Last Friday, the police in West Springfield called to say that they had 12 dogs in an abandoned home with nobody to take care of them and they were fearful that without rescue, they might starve to death in the house. Of course, Great Dog Rescue jumped into action and took every single dog to safety at our isolation center in Woburn, Mass. These pups saw our vet and received vaccinations and other medical attention. When we started reaching out for help, Petco stepped up and gave every single one of the Donuts a full grooming! For free! Thank you again to the gang at Petco for being so a-glaze-ing!
Munchkin and Honey are two little ladies who are the smallest of the dozen! They are incredibly sweet, but need to stay together as a pair because they bring each other true comfort and love. We're not quite sure why they chose each other, but they deserve to live and grow old together in a loving home. Honey is the spunky (and tan) one while Munchkin is a little more shy (though bribing her with chicken might help!) She looks to Honey for guidance and comfort.
Both girls adore humans and being snuggled. They both get along very well with other small dogs and cats. Honey can be a little defensive around larger dogs. She knows she can't take them on, but she'll give them a growl to let them know they are unwelcome in her space. Both girls tolerate grooming and crate training well, although they much prefer to be couch and bed dogs! Both travel well in the car and sleep great in a crate at night.
We cannot promise that any of them are housebroken, but they hope to master all training so they can be your B.D.F: Best Donut Friend! Despite coming out of some of the most horrific conditions we have ever seen, all 12 of these dogs are absolute sweethearts! They just want to be loved, pet and with their people! Now it is your turn to ensure that they have the good life they deserve! Make life sweeter (and punnier) with a donut today!
**These gorgeous dogs have a higher adoption fee than listed on our website. This is not just because they are incredibly awesome and 100% worth it! The adoption fee helps the rescue recoup the extreme medical expenses of saving them from a hoarder situation.**
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.
To adopt or learn more about Honey and Munchkin Donut, you must fill out an adoption application. To find the application, copy and paste this URL into your browser: WWW.GDRNE.COM/ADOPTION-APPLICATION [Adoption Fee: $1200] **
PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted. To learn more about our *shelterless* rescue, adoption fees, and procedures, review the list of Frequently Asked Questions on our website at WWW.GDRNE.COM.
