Sailor, born February 13, 2026 joined Mattie's Place March 29th after arriving from a hoarding situation with authorities involved. Mom (went to another rescue) and 3 babes with Dad joined Mattie's Place; Bartholomew (profile on the website), Captain(currently not available for adoption), sister Calypso (profile on the website) and Sailor.
Sailor went straight to our veterinarian to get his basic vetting underway and will continue over the coming weeks straight through to his neuter in September 2026 at the cost of Mattie's Place on a non negotiable adoption contract.
Sailor is a sweet and active pup that will fit into most any lifestyle.
He is in foster care with his canine siblings, as well as small humans and does exceptionally well.
I don't know what his breed mixes are but based on presumption from Mom & Dad, I would guess Shih Tzu and Havanese (original owner said chihuahua?) but that is purely a guess.
An adopter prepared to invest in professional training takes priority in adoption selection.
Since Sailor is still just a baby, he'll need someone home most often for the coming months so he can learn and grow and prepare for adulthood.
Sailor will require regular professional grooming in his lifetime, so an adopter must have that financial plan when considering adoption budgets.
He is not cat tested, but I can't imagine there would be a cat issue.
I am unsure what his adult weight would be, but presumably in the 15 - 20 pound range as an adult dog.
FROM THE FOSTER:
Sailor is one lively pup! He is the first to get up in the morning, first to finish his meals and the initiator of playtime. He has lots of energy and is very playful and alert. He is learning how to climb “steps” (cushions) with confidence and is always up for something new. While adventurous, Sailor checks in with his human companions often for a belly rub or a cuddle before going back to playtime.
He responds to his name and comes when called.
Sailor is doing a great job sleeping in his crate at night only waking up for a quick potty break once or twice.
He is such a good boy and eager to keep learning.
Sailor loves to hang out with his human foster siblings. His favourite time of day is when they get home from school. As playful as he is, he also loves being carried around on tour of the house to different adventures with his human foster brother. He stays calm and happy being handled by children and he’s always excited to check out where he ends up.
Sailor likes to be where the action is. He is loving and playful and will be a ray of sunshine to his new family.
