Meet Pongo!
Sadly, Pongo was placed into our rescue when his owner's health started declining and she could no longer care for him. Thankfully, our rescue was contacted and after taking one look and this fluffy ball of joy - of course we said YES!
Pongo is currently in a foster home (located in Houston) that he shares with two other dogs, two cats and three young children. As you can see from his video, Pongo LOVES playing with the kids in the family as well as the other dogs. He is also perfectly content with the cats and really pays them little attention. Pongo is happy, healthy, and is very well socialized and hasn't met a person who he isn't instantly smitten with. Here is a bit more about our spunky Pongo:

Shih Tzus are friendly, affectionate, lively, and compact companion dogs, known for their perky, happy temperaments. Originally bred for royalty, they are highly sociable, affectionate "lap dogs" that get along well with children and other pets, making them excellent family dogs or companion dogs.
Chihuahuas are described as "little dogs with big personalities!" They are tiny, confident, and highly loyal companion dogs and they are ideal for a variety of living spaces including apartments but require protection from cold weather. They are intelligent, often vocal, and bond intensely with one person.
Pongo is no exception to the characteristics of both the shih tzu and chihuahua.

Additional thing to know regarding Pongo:

Temperament: Affectionate, confident, playful, and alert. He loves to be with people and really loves spending time playing with the kids in the home.

Activity Level: Moderate - he prefers indoor play and short daily walks over high-intensity exercise.

Grooming: Daily brushing is needed for his longer coat to prevent mats and may require grooming at a professional groomer several times a year.

Pongo is the epitome of both a Shih tzu and chihuahua. He is very sociable, friendly and requires moderate activity. He will thrive best in a home that will have plenty of time to dedicate to him and a home with other playful dogs and/or kids.
