FILTHY, STARVING AND WANDERING THE STREETS UNTIL SOMEONE DECIDED SHE DESERVED A CHANCE.
It all started when a kind person from a neighborhood far from town called Nayeli to let her know about a stray dog wandering around alone. She was extremely thin, filthy, desperately searching for food in the trash, and drinking water from puddles just to survive. The moment Nayeli heard there was a dog in need, she didn’t hesitate and went looking for her and before long, she found this sweet girl that was clearly in need of help. Nayeli picked her up and took her straight to the vet where she was examined and tested for several scary illnesses. Thankfully, all her tests came back negative, but it was obvious that this girl had been struggling for quite some time. She was severely underweight and desperately needed proper nutrition, basic care, vitamins, and, of course, a bath. The vet prescribed special food and vitamins, and Esmeralda was taken to a safe place where she could finally rest, recover, and begin to understand that her life could be different.
Esmeralda is about 4.5 years old, weighs around 15 kilos, and is a beautiful Shepherd/ Retreiver mix
Now that she is in a safe place and does not need to wonder where her next meal is coming from, Esmeralda has transformed from a dog that once had nothing into a beautiful girl who can finally feel safe. Hopefully one day she will find her own family to love and be loved back. Esmeralda has so much love to give. She absolutely loves her walks and enjoys getting out and exploring, but she also knows how to relax and can often be found happily resting in her favorite spot. This sweet girl is friendly with people of all ages, whether it’s the people she sees every day at the shelter or someone completely new visiting, Esmeralda is happy to meet them. She is also doing wonderfully with other dogs. She shares her midsize and large-dog area peacefully and enjoys socializing with the others during the shelter’s off-leash running time. When she sees other dogs while out on a walk, she may stop and take a look, but she is a little on the shy side and prefers to avoiding any interaction before continuing happily on her way. She has no problem sharing her food bowl, toys or favorite sleeping spot with other dogs. Like many dogs who have experienced stress and uncertainty, when Esmeralda becomes stressed, she may chew or bite things. With a safe environment, patience, appropriate outlets, and plenty of love, she can continue learning that she no longer needs to live in survival mode. She has already survived life on the streets, and she has learned that humans can be kind and now she needs the final—and most important—part of her rescue story: A Forever Home.
