Sissy Gump - Shepherd Dog for Adoption in Stratham, New Hampshire

Sissy Gump (approximately 39 pounds) was transferred to the NHSPCA from an overcrowded shelter in Tennessee. She spent time in a wonderful foster home, and no one could describe this awesome girl as well as her foster parents do, so enjoy their letter:

If you're looking for a dog who wants to be part of everything you do, Sissy is your girl. Her favorite place is with people. She is very well behaved when we visit restaurants and bars and she gets tons of compliments - she even gets to sit on a stool at her favorite brewery!
Sissy has been in a foster home with a senior female pit bull, a young male Malinois, a young Dutch Shepard, 3 cats and 3 chickens. The cats actually like her (!), and she had zero interest in the chickens. Sissy has interacted with a lot of kids at events and enjoyed playing with them. She is gentle and respectful with our senior dog. She can out play the big boys and is ALWAYS the fastest to fetch a ball or retrieve a stick from the river. She loves to play tug of war, chase balls, and run at full speed. She's incredibly athletic, lightning fast, and always ready for her next game!
One of the most fascinating things about Sissy is her nose. We don't know much about her past, but when she's on a leash she tends to pull with purpose, almost like she's following a scent trail or "working." Instead of fighting that instinct, we introduced scent detection games, and she amazed us. She quickly outperformed the other dogs, correctly identifying the target box every single time. She clearly has a natural talent and would likely thrive with scent work, nose work classes, tracking, or other enrichment activities that let her use her incredible abilities.
Sissy is the perfect mix of affectionate cuddle bug and adventurous loyal, protective athlete. She'll happily curl up next to you after a day filled with running, swimming, sniffing, and playing.
