Shar Pei Dogs Available for Adoption in West Peoria, Illinois

Meet Brian, an 8 week old Shar-Pei mix puppy. Brian and his littermates have been going to events for the past couple of weeks to work on socialization skills. They are sweet as can be, they love to run and play for 5 minutes and then become a puddle with you. They have not started outside potty training yet, but they are litter box trained in their play yard. They love to play with toys and play hide and seek and catch me if you can. They currently weigh 5-8# and we expect them to be 30-40# full grown. This breed is not for every family. They MUST be socialized, they MUST be trained consistently. They will often need special care with, ears, eyes and wrinkles. We will be looking for families that understand the breed along with their needs. These are puppies that typically will not accept a new family down the road, so you are it. You are their entire world. These pups will require an owned home vs rented due to breed restrictions at many places.

The Shar Pei is a distinctive breed known for their deep wrinkles and blue black tongue. Originally from China, these medium sized dogs are loyal, independent, and protective of their families. Shar Peis have a unique appearance with a hippopotamus like face and a broad, padded muzzle. Their coat can be either horse coat or brush coat, coming in a variety of colors. While they can be aloof with strangers, Shar Peis are devoted companions with a calm demeanor, making them wonderful family pets.
