Meet Milo!
Milo is a 6-year-old, neutered Schnauzer mix with a handsome silver coat, a playful spirit, and a heart full of love. This sweet and goofy boy is looking for a patient, active home that can provide the exercise, structure, and companionship he deserves.
Milo is potty trained, knows several commands including sit, stay, down, and speak, and loves being part of his family’s daily routine. He starts his mornings with a walk followed by breakfast and currently enjoys multiple walks throughout the day. While he spends plenty of time napping, he’d much rather be out exploring, playing, and spending time with his people.
One of Milo’s favorite things in the world is playtime. He loves fetch, stuffed toys, and interactive games with the people he trusts. He’s highly praise-motivated and enjoys being talked to, sung to, and included in everyday activities. Once he’s comfortable with you, he’ll happily shower you with kisses and affection. He’s known for his funny noises, expressive personality, and wagging tail whenever someone gives him attention.
Milo can be a little nervous when meeting new people, but he warms up quickly when allowed to approach at his own pace. He prefers people to crouch down and let him come to them rather than reaching over his head. While he enjoys affection, he can be sensitive about having his face touched and doesn’t particularly enjoy being picked up, though he’ll tolerate it when necessary.
Milo has participated in professional training programs, including a board-and-train program and work with multiple trainers. He is an extremely intelligent dog who learns quickly and responds well to training. While he has made progress, he continues to struggle with leash reactivity and may bark or lunge when he sees unfamiliar dogs, squirrels, children, or occasionally people while on walks. Because of this, he will need an adopter committed to continuing his training and providing consistent structure. We believe Milo has great potential to continue improving in the right environment.
Milo enjoys some dogs but not all. He does best with calm, stable, playful dogs and will require a proper meet-and-greet with any resident dogs before adoption. He is not a candidate for a home with cats and would likely do best in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy teenagers.
At home, Milo sleeps either in his own bed or cuddled up in bed with his person. He currently eats Hill’s Science Diet and is not crate trained. He occasionally experiences motion sickness during car rides, likely because he has had limited opportunities to travel, but this may improve with practice and positive experiences.
Recently, Milo has begun having occasional accidents in the house, which his owner believes are related to frustration from not receiving enough exercise and mental stimulation due to health limitations. We anticipate this behavior may improve once he is in a home that can better meet his activity needs.
Milo’s current family loves him dearly and has made the heartbreaking decision to seek a new home because personal and physical health challenges have made it difficult to provide the lifestyle he needs. Because Milo has spent years with his current family, we know this transition will be a significant adjustment for him. We will be especially thoughtful in selecting a home that can provide patience, consistency, and a commitment to helping him settle in successfully.
Milo would thrive with an active adopter who enjoys walks, adventures, beach days, camping trips, or simply spending quality time with their dog. He has so much love to give and is looking for someone willing to see past his nervous moments and appreciate the incredibly affectionate, loyal companion underneath.
His current family would be happy to send him to his new home with some of his favorite belongings, including his bed, toys, leash, and collar, to help make his transition a little easier.
If you’re looking for a playful best friend, an enthusiastic fetch partner, and a dog who will adore you with his whole heart, Milo may be the perfect match.
