Meet Cheddar!
Cheddar is a big, beautiful, gentle giant 3 year old weighing 78 pounds. This mellow shepherd mix has a soft presence and calm energy, though he’s still a little unsure of the world around him. He’s shy and quiet at first - the kind of dog who prefers to observe before jumping in. But even when he’s feeling nervous, he remains incredibly gentle and sweet.

Cheddar has a sweet, sensitive personality and forms deep bonds once he feels safe. He really enjoys other dogs, especially ones who want to play! It seems to bring out his happiest, most relaxed self. The other day he was feeling a little nervous, but when we brought him into the play yard with our resident dog Whiskey, his whole demeanor changed - his tail started wagging and he ran happily around the yard with her. He clearly finds comfort and confidence in canine companionship.

Before coming to Pups Without Borders, Cheddar was part of a group of nine dogs who were trapped and brought into the shelter system, many of them scared and shut down. Since his rescue, he’s been decompressing and learning that the world can be a safe place. Cheddar would do best with a patient, compassionate adopter, ideally in a calm home with a confident dog companion to help him continue building confidence. Beneath his timid exterior is a soulful, loving dog just waiting to blossom.
