I still remember the day my world changed.

One minute I had an owner. The next, I was sitting in a shelter wearing my pretty little harness, wondering why no one came back for me.

I waited. And waited. I dont know what I did wrong.

I was so scared that I couldnt stop shaking. Every sound made me jump. Every person who walked by, I hoped it was someone coming for me. The volunteer who met me that day said I couldnt stay there another night. She looked at me and saw a girl whose heart was breaking.

That girl was me. Hi... Im Cleo.

Im only a year old, so I still have my whole life ahead of me. Im great with kids, other dogs, and cats are just fine by me. My foster says Im one of the sweetest girls theyve ever met.

Im a little shy when we first meet. I hope youll forgive me for that. You see, when someone you love leaves you behind, your heart gets a little more careful. I just need a minute to believe youre really staying.

But once I know Im safe... oh, I love with everything I have. I promise Ill love everyone who walks through the door of the home where I finally feel safe. Ill follow you from room to room because my favorite place isnt on the couch or in a dog bed. Its wherever you are. If you laugh, my tail wags. If you sit down, Ill be right beside you. If youre having a bad day, Ill quietly remind you that youre never alone.

The rescue even fixed my cherry eye before introducing me to everyone because they wanted me to feel my very best. They joked about giving me a little pirate eye while I healed, but I think they secretly knew my eyes were always going to tell my story better than words ever could.

Theyve seen the real me. The playful girl who gets the zoomies. The gentle soul who adores children. The sweetheart who just wants someone to love forever.

I dont need a perfect family. I dont care if your house is big or small. I dont care if your couch is fancy. I just want to know that when you leave for work, youll come home to me. That when I fall asleep tonight, Ill wake up with the same family tomorrow. That Ill never have to wonder again if Im being left behind.
