Meet Doug — a guy who knows what he likes and, most importantly, LOVES his person. Doug is about 5 years old, neutered and up to date on his shots.
Doug is happiest when he can be close to his favorite human. He would love a home where someone is around often and where he can be your loyal sidekick. He has a big personality and a whole lot of love to give to the right person.
Doug's challenges are largely rooted in anxiety, particularly when he feels like he is being left alone or separated from his person by a barrier. Baby gates, in particular, are not his favorite thing! We are working with Doug on feeling more comfortable with boundaries and separation, and he has been doing well on a daily anxiety medication. This medication will likely need to remain part of his routine long-term.
Doug would prefer to be the only dog in the home, although he may do well with a calm, submissive dog who understands his boundaries. Because of his anxiety and the work we are doing with him, he needs a home without young children. Ideally, his new person will be home much of the time and will be willing to continue helping him build confidence and feel secure.
Doug isn't looking for a home where he will simply be expected to "deal with" his anxiety. He needs someone who understands that his behaviors come from fear and anxiety, is willing to be patient with him, and will continue the structure and support that have been helping him succeed.
In return, Doug will give you what he loves most — his person. He is incredibly devoted and wants to be by your side.
Doug needs a forever home that will understand him, advocate for him, and love him for exactly who he is. Could that be you?
