Seokryu meaning pomegranate and pronounced "SUNG-GRROO" in Korean, joined Mattie's Place as an owner surrender.
With many life changes happening with her owner and with Seokryu requiring a dental, the owner felt she would be better served with another home.
We welcomed 8 year old Seokryu, with a DOB of: December 5, 2018
She has a registered pedigree with the Korea Kennel Federation in South Korea.
She weighs in at 6 KG or 13.5 pounds.
Seokryu arrived to Mattie's Place and went immediately in for her dental and we had to remove 16 teeth October 27th at our rescue veterinarian. We also completed bloodwork for her and got her vaccines and parasite prevention updated.
Seokryu is a really nice dog. She lacks a lot of social skills and didn't really explore life outside of her family and their home and yard, so being outside on walks where there are lots of people and things, makes her very nervous. But as her foster Mom continues to socialize her, she'll continue to thrive and move through her insecurities. It's really just going to be time and exposure.
Seokryu does have vocal separation anxiety, so a home with someone home most often and walls not shared with a neighbour will be important. Though she's thriving in her foster home in a condo setting, it's not a long term situation in foster care, so the separation anxiety can easily be managed in the interim. But post adoption, people must go out and neighbours will complain about a barking dog.
Seokryu will benefit from having a confident and friendly resident dog to teach her all the ways to be a companion pet and also how to navigate outdoors with ease. She can be a solo dog, but I think she'd do great having a friend as she's been a solo dog all her life and really seems to love other dogs.
Not cat tested, but with a dog savvy cat, I'm sure she'd be just fine. I wouldn't place her in a home with kids under 12 years old, but with visiting kids she'll be fine, supervised. I'm positive she'll be good with kids as she's a really polite and kind girl. And though I have no bite concerns with Seokryu, she is very nervous as she navigates life and the energy of young children will likely be way to much for her on a daily basis.
An adopter willing to give her the gift of professional training would be wonderful, since she's missed out on so much the 1st 8 years of her life.
FROM THE FOSTER;
Seokryu is such a sweet, gentle, and affectionate girl.
She absolutely loves being close to her person and will follow me around everywhere I go. One of her favourite things to do is settle down right beside me, with her little bum touching me, and lie there peacefully. She doesn't ask for much — she just loves knowing that her person is nearby.
She does seem to have some separation anxiety and will sometimes bark when she can't see me. We've been working on this together, and I've already noticed improvements. It's still a work in progress, and she'll need continued patience and training to help her feel more comfortable and confident when she's alone.
Seokryu currently eats twice a day, once around 9 AM and again around 9 PM.
One thing Seokryu absolutely LOVES is going on walks! The moment she realizes it's time to go outside, she gets so excited that she starts jumping and dancing around. It's honestly one of the cutest things to see! Although she loves her walks, she's still quite nervous around unfamiliar people and other dogs, even when they're at a distance. When she first arrived, she would completely freeze and refuse to move whenever she noticed someone nearby. But she's slowly learning that the world isn't as scary as she once thought. Now, instead of freezing, she's beginning to take little steps forward on her own. It might seem like a small change, but for Seokryu, it's such a big milestone, and I'm so proud of her progress.
We usually go for three walks a day, around 8 AM, 3 PM, and 8 PM. She is fully housetrained and does all her business outside. She has also grown quite attached to Lilli (resident dog). Seokryu often follows her around and likes to do whatever Lilli is doing. Having Lilli around seems to give her reassurance and has helped her feel more comfortable as she adjusts to her new surroundings.
Seokryu is truly such a loving and gentle soul.
She's still learning to be brave and build her confidence, but seeing her slowly come out of her shell has been so rewarding. Underneath that shy little personality is a girl with so much love to give, and I can't wait for her to continue blossoming.
