Buster - Poodle Dog for Adoption in Toronto, Ontario

BUSTER

Poodle
🇨🇦
Toronto, Ontario
November 3rd
male, small, adult

DESCRIPTION

Buster was in a in-house backyard breeding program and the breeder went out of business and surrendered all their dogs to rescues. It wasn't the worst of places that he came from and he did live in their house, but he was used as a stud for money over being a companion pet.

Buster is 5 years old. He weighs in at 17 pounds. He's a poodle mix with something that would classify him as a "doodle" of some kind.

Buster has embraced a foster home that has shown him kindness and compassion and he's loving everything about it and his loyalty runs deep. I'm confident this love and loyalty will be transitional to an adopter. His foster Dad needed to work a few hours harder to earn Buster's love. But he velcro'd himself to his foster Mom immediately.

Buster is still working on housetraining, so he'll need a belly band on so he doesn't wee in your home, until he can work through and fully understand potty is outside. Thankfully he's a male, so it's easier to manage.

Since Buster was never really given any guidance and for sure never received professional training, plus he's a poodle, he can be a handful, having very much a puppy brain and will benefit from working with a trainer and will need an adopter that has clear expectations and boundaries in place.

He has a very kind heart. He's a very sweet dog. But he lacks a lot of good dog skills, which he can learn, but it will take some time.

Being a poodle, he will need regular grooming, so an adopter must ensure they have that in the budget when considering adoption.

He has not been cat tested. He would be fine with older, dog savvy kids, as his foster does have a visiting older child.

On arrival we did a dental on him with teeth extractions. Full bloodwork. He's now neutered and fully up to date medically. We also had to shave him completely down as he was quite matted.

He's a good dog for someone willing to put some initial work in to get him to where he needs to be to be an excellent bestie to his new person or people.

FROM THE FOSTER:

BUSTER: Velcro dog!!

Buster sticks like glue. They are the perfect little lap dog; wants to be on you, near you, with you every second of every day. No separation anxiety, but they will wait by the door or on the staircase looking out the window waiting for you to come home.

Originally, there were a lot of accidents in the house, and Buster is still not 100% house trained. He won’t signal to go outside, so you have to be proactive with bathroom breaks and timing after food and drink, although seen massive improvements in the past week. Buster is starting to learn he needs to wait and that the outdoors will come soon after eating and drinking!

Routine: a simple cycle of eat, sleep, climb all over you, nap, repeat. Buster eats 2 x daily (approx 1 cup split throughout the day) and will absolutely try and counter surf for snacks, or general mischief. They like to be on top of things all the time - coffee tables, couches, heads...

Buster has zero interest in toys. He likes to jump all over resident doodle Tayo (70lbs) then gets bored quickly and just wants to sniff and explore. Buster has zero recall and has potential to be an escape artist if allowed - he likes to follow his people, and will try and open doors / gates etc. to get to you if he thinks there's a chance.

Buster absolutely hates the crate. He has been perfectly fine left alone in the house, he just settles in one spot and watches the world go by from the window
