Kingsley - Poodle Dog for Adoption in Toronto, Ontario

KINGSLEY

Poodle
🇨🇦
Toronto, Ontario
August 30th
male, small, young

DESCRIPTION

Kingsley was surrendered to a Canadian shelter, along with 4 other dogs, when his owner was overwhelmed with 5 dogs and did what was in their best interest and surrendered them where they could be safe at the shelter.

They were well taken care of, short of needing grooms and mostly vetted, so they come from a home that had the best intentions.

Kingsley is 3 years old, according to his previous owner, but we weren't provided with an exact birthdate, so we gave him an estimated DOB: August 1, 2023. He weighs in at 4.1 KG / 9 POUNDS . I don't know what his breed mix(es) are. Poodle something presumably.

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.

Kingsley is a very sweet, happy, social boy. He's happy to meet everyone and though is a solo dog in his foster home, he doesn't appear to have any issues with dogs, given his previous living experience and dogs he sees on walks.

He can be a little "uncertain" when people are coming into his space and shows some barking anxiety, but it doesn't take him long to settle and welcome new human friends in his foster space.

Kingsley is a very good dog but even being a good dog could benefit from a professional trainer support for a few training sessions to get him up to speed on basic dog life and help build a bond between adopter and Kingsley. It could also strengthen his confidence with new people coming into his home.

Kingsley is a dog that will require regular grooming, so be sure that is in your budget when considering adoption.

Kingsley is a dog that LOVES people and though we're not seeing separation anxiety currently, he is a dog that could be prone to having some separation anxiety as poodles can be so sensitive. He's left home in foster care, very little right now, so it's not full work days that we can test him with. So confidence building is going to be important if considering adoption and a home most often, work from home or take your dog to work scenario (or opt for daycare) will be an important consideration when determining his best adoption options.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Kingsley is truly such a happy little gentleman. He loves to keep your lap warm, even if he just met you 5 minutes ago. He will bark at new people in his home/space, but quickly stops after some quick pets and reassurance you are good people.

He likes to chase a toy inside the home, and very politely, drops it at your feet, asking for more tosses.

He is not heavily food motivated; he likes to pick at his food throughout the day and enjoys a small treat at home if offered. He is slightly more interested in the cats food, so that food bowl is always out of reach of Kingsley.

After every walk, he comes inside and has a solid 2 minutes of zoomies, where he finds a comfy spot (either the couch or one of his dog beds) to "rub the cooties" off from outside.

He is good on the leash, and not really interested in meeting dogs when on a walk, and blatantly ignores 85% of other dogs. He is completely house trained, although on his first day or two we had a couple accidents, but they don't count (he's a allowed to get nervous). He does bark a few times at the door if someone knocks/he hears someone outside, and stops once you reassure him its okay.

He chooses to be around his people; if you move rooms in the house, so does he. He will find the comfiest spot in which he could both nap and make sure you don't leave to another room without him.
