Milo - English Springer Spaniel Dog for Adoption in Toronto, Ontario

MILO

English Springer Spaniel
🇨🇦
Toronto, Ontario
August 15th
male, medium, baby

DESCRIPTION

July 24th, 2026 Milo was surrendered to Mattie's Place by his owner, when he was fighting for his life in emergency care and his owner did not have the funds to support his stay.

Milo tested positive for parvovirus

Milo was purchased just days prior from a "breeder" by a friend and given to Milo's owner as a gift, to help this senior through some medical challenges he was overcoming.

Born May 14, 2026, Milo is just a puppy.

Thankfully, Milo does have pet insurance in place, without any pre-existing conditions:

Trupanion / $145.18 per month / $500.00 deductible / 90% coverage for accident or illness / no financial payout limits / Recovery and Complementary Care included for alternative medicine; naturopathy, chiropractor, rehab therapies, hydrotherapy, acupuncture etc.

Milo fought hard for his life for 7 days in emergency care, and after multiple transfusions and 1 week of supportive care, this warrior puppy was discharged into his foster home July 31st, where he bounced back and is just a mischievous Springer Spaniel puppy.

Milo's hospital stay came to a total of: $13,189.61 with insurance covering $9,958.33 and Mattie's Place covering the balance.

Though parvovirus can be fatal for many puppies, once recovered, there should be no long term effects, though they can have sensitive tummies due to the destruction of the GI tract during parvo.

Milo will be in quarantine for his parvovirus until August 21st and I'm looking for him to have his adoption finalized and join his for-always person/people between August 22 & 30.

Milo will begin his vaccine protocols, at the cost of Mattie's Place when he is no longer in his quarantine period in his foster home. His vaccine protocols consists of 3 rounds of core vaccines plus rabies. He will be dewormed at each of those appointments and received parasite prevention. He will be neutered in January 2027, on a non negotiable contract, again, at the cost of Mattie's Place. All this medical care will be required to take place at a Mattie's Place veterinarian at the closest location to his adopter.

Milo is presumed to be an English Springer Spaniel, though I can't confirm. He's expected adult weight would be in the 50 pound range. He will need a very active adopter that enjoys lots of outdoor adventures and has the time to devote to a working breed dog.

Milo is not for a first time dog owner.

He is a very sweet boy and being a puppy, can fit into many family dynamics; dogs, cats, kids

Milo will need an adopter committed to professional training so he can grow up to be the best adult boy he can possibly be.

Milo is a puppy and puppies are A LOT of work. He will need someone home most often during his crucial puppy stages so he can learn and grow at the direction of his humans.

Milo is still learning potty training. He is a chewer of EVERYTHING. He is demanding of your time. He will wake you up in the middle of the night for a cuddle. He lacks leash skills. Milo is a puppy.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Small but mighty Milo is the quintessential puppy — equal parts silly, cheeky, curious and cuddly. He is a very special little guy who has already shown just how much personality can fit into one small puppy.

Milos favourite place is wherever the people are. He follows me everywhere and is happiest simply being included, whether that means playing, exploring, watching a movie or settling nearby while I read a book. He doesn't need to be the centre of attention; he just wants to be part of the action. And, of course, he is a very enthusiastic participant in mealtimes!

He is also discovering the joys of being a puppy and all the things that come with it. His manners are a work in progress, as is his potty training, but he is learning every day and making progress. He takes his meals and sleeps in his crate, and continued support helping him build a positive association with his crate will be important as he grows.

Milo is currently absolutely in love with anything he can chew. Toys and appropriate chews are a great way to keep his busy little puppy brain and mouth occupied, and he is happy to redirect his attention onto something he is allowed to chew.

And then there is his run. Calling it a run might be generous — Milo has more of a little puppy gallop, and it is quite possibly one of the cutest things I you'll ever see.

It is hard to believe that not long ago, this little guy was fighting his way through a serious case of parvo. You truly would never know it from his demeanour today. He is bright, playful, affectionate and full of life.

Milo is special. He is learning more every day — and he is ready for someone who will continue to help him grow into the wonderful dog he is going to become.

Milo is just getting started.
