HOUSEHOLD REQUIREMENTS
KIDS: 16+ due to his sensitivity, stress levels, and need for a calm, predictable environment.
OTHER DOGS: Tater would do best as the only dog in the home. While he has been non-reactive to dogs in the shelter, there have been noted possible leash reactivity and he appears most comfortable focusing on his own people.
CATS: Unknown. Tater has not been cat tested.
ENVIRONMENT: A quieter home where he can settle in at his own pace and decompress from the stress of shelter life.
NEEDS: Patient adopters who understand that Tater may not show his full personality right away. He will benefit from time, routine, and ongoing support as he adjusts to life outside the shelter.
TRAINING & COMMITMENT
DECOMPRESSION TIME: Shelter life has been incredibly difficult for Tater. He has experienced significant stress and anxiety while in care and will need adopters who can give him the time and space to settle into a new environment without pressure.
LEASH REACTIVITY SUPPORT: While Tater has been non-reactive to dogs in the shelter environment, reports from intake and walks suggest he may show leash reactivity. Continued positive reinforcement training and management will help him build confidence.
CONFIDENCE BUILDING: Tater is a sensitive dog who benefits from patient, predictable handling. Helping him feel safe and secure will be important as he transitions into a home.
ABOUT TATER
Tater is a sweet, sensitive soul who is searching for a family willing to see past the stress of shelter life and discover the wonderful dog underneath. When Tater first arrived at the shelter, he came in alongside another dog. While his companion was reclaimed by their owners, nobody came for Tater. Losing both his familiar companion and his home has been incredibly hard on him, and he has shown us just how deeply he feels those losses.
To help him cope with the challenges of shelter life, Tater has been receiving medication to support his anxiety and stress. Even during this difficult transition, he has consistently shown a gentle and affectionate side with staff. He enjoys spending time with people, soaking up attention, and taking life at a slower pace. Tater has been remarkably patient through veterinary treatments for a large wound he arrived with, handling his ongoing care with quiet resilience.
Because of his stress levels and current medication support, we know there is likely much more to Tater's personality waiting to emerge once he feels safe in a home. What we do know is that he is a kind-hearted dog who deserves a second chance. With patience, understanding, and a commitment to helping him build confidence, Tater has the potential to blossom into a devoted and loving companion.

All adult dogs at Animal Services have veterinary health checks, and are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, dewormed and defleaed (if necessary) before going to their new homes.
Adoption Fee: $391
If you live in the City of Vancouver, you will also need to purchase a dog licence.
