Autumn
Sweet Miss Autumn - where to start??
Poor Autumn has had a rough 2026. After being raised by one owner since she was a puppy, she found herself in the shelter at 9 years old. Her owner had passed unexpectedly and no one was able to take her in.
Needless to say, she struggled in the shelter. The environment was way too loud and hectic. Her comforts were gone. Where was her person? Where were her toys?
As her foster mom, the picture of Autumn cowering in the corner of her stall, not even interested in ice cream or treats, sucked me in. My husband and I knew we had to foster her.
Autumn is amazing. She’s super cuddly with her people. A DREAM on a leash. She knows basic commands (e.g., sit, wait, drop, come, nose down, no) and is eager to learn more. She wants to please! She has great manners and waits for permission if she is in new places or unsure. She is perfectly housebroken. She’s not crate trained but does wonderfully in a gated room; we have also had no issues with her free-roaming. She is AMAZING with cats. She’s not even a big barker - just typical dog barking when new people come over.
Autumn was unsure of us at the beginning, but we quickly gained her trust. Being loved and trusted by her has been so lovely and rewarding. She just needs someone who’s patient and willing to give her space and time. She’s not the dog that’s going to run up and jump in your lap the first time she sees you - and that’s okay! Once she trusts you, you will have a best friend for life. She will want to go everywhere and do everything with you. ESPECIALLY playing fetch with her favorite ball.
We thought about “foster failing” Autumn and adding her to our family forever. However, once my husband returned to work, it became apparent that she would be happier as a solo dog OR with parents who don’t have as hefty a commute and can spend more time with her. All Autumn wants is an owner who has tons of love to give!
