What we know: Pregnant female transferred from Rebel All Breed Rescue in Las Cruces, New Mexico. She was originally brought into the shelter as a stray and is estimated to be approximately 45 days pregnant at the time of intake. She tested heartworm positive and will receive appropriate medical care while in rescue.
**Mama Winnie's puppies have been adopted and she is currently in heartworm treatment. Her first injection is scheduled for 6/30 at Barker Road in Aurora. The second and third injections occur 30 days after the first. Once treatment is complete and she has recovered, she will be ready for spay and then adoption. If an interested adopter is able to foster her through her treatment, which includes strict crate rest for certain periods, please reach out -info@coloradopuppy.org. WINNIE DOES NOT ATTEND ADOPTION EVENTS**
From the foster: Mama Winnie has done an incredible job raising her puppies. She cared for them with dedication and love, and she continues to be a wonderful mom while being fostered with one of her pups.
Now that her puppies have all been adopted, Winnie is ready for a home where she can be the center of attention! She is extremely people-friendly and loves meeting new friends. Without the responsibility of protecting her puppies, her affectionate personality truly shines. Winnie loves being petted, enjoys playing with toys, and is always happy to curl up on the couch for snuggles. She is a strong chewer and needs a good bone or longer lasting chew daily to keep her from finding her own chew treat! Squirrels are public enemy number one and Winnie would love a home with a yard to protect.
Winnie does well with children, though she can get excited and may jump up when greeting people, so supervision around very young children may be helpful. She appears to get along best with dogs that have a similar size and energy level.
Winnie is still working on her leash manners and would benefit from continued training. Winnie does well in the crate overnight. She's an early riser but is quiet until the sun comes up!
Despite currently undergoing treatment for heartworm, you would never guess it from her cheerful spirit. She is full of energy, loves to run and play, and approaches life with enthusiasm.
Winnie is ready to leave her mama duties behind and find a loving family of her own.
