Fidget Spinner: Fun in Every Direction
Fidget Spinner is a 10–12 week old, 15-pound Pit Bull mix puppy who came to DPS Rescue with a fabulous personality and an impressive set of manners for such a young pup. She is fun, goofy, adventurous, and convinced she is much larger than she really is. Whether she is romping with her Husky foster brother, tackling a favorite chew toy, or snoozing in an impossibly adorable position, Fidget approaches everything with her whole heart.
Spin, Play, Repeat
Fidget Spinner is a joyful ball of puppy energy. She loves racing around the yard, exploring her surroundings, and playing with toys and chews. Her resident foster brother is a Husky mix, and Fidget has no trouble holding her own during their play sessions. In fact, this tiny powerhouse regularly manages to tire him out and has effectively appointed herself ruler of the household.
Once her battery finally runs down, Fidget transforms into an affectionate cuddle bug. She will try to climb into a lap for a nap, ask to join her people on the couch, or take herself back to her crate and curl up in her donut bed. Her foster has found her asleep in nearly every position imaginable.
Fidget loves people and enjoys being involved in the household. She is also highly food motivated, which should make training both productive and fun.
A Day in the Life
Fidget wakes around 7:00 a.m. and heads outside for a potty break. She then has breakfast before launching into a morning play session with her foster brother and toys.
Once she has burned off some energy, Fidget returns to her large crate for a well-earned nap. The rest of her day follows a classic puppy rhythm: snack on kibble, drink some water, play enthusiastically, fall asleep, and repeat.
Her kibble is put away around 9:00 p.m., and she settles down for the night. She currently sleeps with a potty pad available and usually uses it once or twice overnight.
Remarkably Good Puppy Manners
For a puppy her age, Fidget is impressively well behaved. She is comfortable spending time alone in her large crate, which is set up with a bed, food, water, toys, a chew, and a potty pad. She has successfully remained in this setup for as long as eight hours when her foster needed to work outside the home.
Even better, Fidget will often put herself to bed in her crate when she gets tired. She understands her routine, knows how to settle, and generally saves her voice for moments when she wants something. Even then, she is not an excessive barker.
Fidget has not started public walks yet, but she receives plenty of supervised exercise and playtime at home.
Potty-Training Progress
Fidget is not yet fully housetrained, but she is off to a great start. She regularly potties outside and understands how to use pee pads during the day and overnight. Like any very young puppy, she may have an accident if she is given too much space or goes too long without a potty break.
A consistent schedule, frequent outdoor trips, supervision, and lots of praise will help her continue building on her strong foundation.
Baby Shark School
Fidget is teething and currently considers her mouth an essential part of the play experience. She can be a bit of a baby shark, but she is learning to redirect onto toys when corrected. Fortunately, she adores squeaky toys, chew toys, and other puppy-approved alternatives.
Her adopter should be ready to continue teaching bite inhibition, appropriate play, and all the other skills that help a spirited puppy grow into a wonderful adult dog. Fidget is bright, food motivated, and already remarkably responsive for her age, so she has excellent potential.
Canine Companions
Fidget plays very well with her medium-to-large Husky mix foster brother and would likely enjoy living with a confident, playful dog who can comfortably match her energy and physical style.
Her enthusiastic play was too intense for a smaller foster puppy. Any resident dog should be medium-sized or larger, energetic, and tolerant of puppy antics. Thoughtful introductions and supervision will help everyone start on the right paw. She recently met the DPS Safehouse cat and was politely curious; she could be an option for a home with felines with proper intros and training.
Family Life
Because Fidget is energetic, physical, and still using those sharp puppy teeth during play, her best match will be an adult home or a family with older children. Her behavior is completely normal for a puppy, but it could be intimidating or uncomfortable for very young children.
With people who understand puppy development and are ready to provide structure, training, exercise, and plenty of appropriate things to chew, Fidget will flourish.
Like many Pit Bull mixes, Fidget appears to have some food allergies; she's been switched to a non-poultry diet and is doing well on that.
Ready to Keep Life Spinning
Fidget Spinner’s ideal family will embrace her confidence, humor, energy, and affectionate nature. She would love a home where she can run, play, learn, and then collapse into a lap when the excitement is over. If there is a resident dog, a playful medium-to-large companion would be her best match.
She may think she is a princess—and honestly, she has a compelling case. Fidget Spinner is happy, hilarious, loving, and unusually well behaved for her age. With continued training and guidance, this spirited little girl has everything she needs to become a truly exceptional dog.
