DESCRIPTION

Merle Dawson… yes, like merle the coloring and trust us, he lives up to the name in every possible way. This boy is a walking work of art with his stunning merle coat, those perfectly floppy ears, and eyes that stop you mid-scroll. One being icy blue and the other being a beautiful caramel brown. But somehow, his personality outshines even all of that. Merle is basically a walking exclamation point, in the happiest, most contagious way. He’s full of life, full of love, and fully convinced that every single person he meets is his new best friend. The way he lights up around people? It’s instant. The way he leans into you for affection like he’s been waiting all day just to see you? Even better. He’s devoted, he’s goofy, he’s ridiculously lovable, and once you meet him, it’s pretty much game over. You’re going to be saying “oh… I need this dog” before you even realize it.

Merle Dawson is believed to be a pittie mix approximately 5 years old and currently weighs 47 lbs. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age.

When it comes to people, Merle absolutely adores them. He greets new friends with a wagging tail, a big smile, and that irresistible “hi I love you already” energy. He’s the kind of dog who leans right into you for affection and soaks up every bit of attention like it’s his favorite thing in the world, because it is. His goofy personality and sweet nature make him instantly lovable, and connections with him happen fast. Merle is happiest when he’s simply with his people, part of whatever is going on, included in the moment. He also has all the makings of an amazing family dog. Merle has been around kids and genuinely enjoyed the attention and interaction that came with being around them. Merle has been around children as young as 5 years old and, true to who he is, he just loved being included in the fun. Whether it’s hanging out, playing, or just being part of the everyday chaos, Merle was right there soaking it all in with a happy, easygoing attitude. We believe he has the potential to make a wonderful companion for a family with kids.

Merle is a curious, engaged boy who enjoys being involved in everyday life. He likes having little activities to keep him busy. Puzzle toys, licky mats, and enrichment games are all things he enjoys, but more than anything, he just wants to be near you. Whether you’re relaxing at home, moving through a busy day, or just hanging out, Merle is content being your sidekick. He’s the kind of dog who can handle a little hustle and bustle around him without missing a beat. It doesn’t overwhelm him, it just makes him happy to be included in the action.

Merle is dog-friendly and has done best with easygoing female dogs who have a calm, no-drama kind of personality. The dogs he naturally gravitates toward are the laid-back, happy girls who don’t take things too seriously, aren’t looking for nonstop play, and are content simply coexisting peacefully. He’s not much of a roughhousing, rowdy dog park type of guy. His play style is lighthearted and short-lived, and more often than not, you’ll find him doing his own thing, rolling around in the grass, exploring, or circling back to his people for affection. While he can absolutely be around the right dogs successfully, Merle’s happiest and most relaxed self really shines when he doesn’t have to share his space full-time.

At the end of the day, people are truly his priority, and he would thrive most as the center of someone’s world in an only-dog home.

Merle thrives with structure, routine, and a home where he can feel connected to his people. He doesn’t need anything over the top, just consistency, a little mental engagement, and plenty of time spent together. In the right home, he blossoms into a loyal, easygoing companion who just wants to be part of your everyday life. He is very treat motivated and it should go without saying that he is eager to please his people. Merle walks fairly well on a leash and hardly ever pulls. When he does, it’s out of initial excitement because he loves to go on walks or he’ll pull because he wants to go say hi to a friend. He is working on basic commands such as sit and because he is so food motivated and eager to please, any additional training will be a joy and bonding experience for you both.

Merle would do best in a home with a semi-active family that enjoys including their dog in the rhythm of the day. Whether that’s running errands, hanging out at home, or just moving through life side by side. He would also do best in a home with a big fenced in back yard rather than an apartment. A place where he can stretch those legs of his, sunbathe during nice summer days, and play with you in the yard. If you’re looking for a dog who will be your constant companion, your little shadow, and your built-in best friend, Merle is ready to be exactly that.

We are willing to test Merle Dawson with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.
